Archimedes
A month ago, I purchased 2 XMS modules and I've had crashes and resets from the very beginning. Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe (BIOS 1012 - 2004/08/10) AMD AthlonXP 3200+ 400MHz FSB 256 MB ATI Radeon x800 Pro AGP 2 x Corsair CMX-512-3200XLPRO 250 GB Maxtor SATA 60 GB Maxtor IDE XP Pro SP2 NO OVERCLOCKING!! This machine is fast enough when its not resetting itself. I've narrowed it down to CPU, MB, or RAM by replacing all other components with known working ones. EACH stick of RAM fails the 6th(Modulo 20) test of memtest86+, only not everytime. The first stick I tested returned 33 errors on the 5th pass of the 6th test and the second stick got one error on the 6th test about every other pass. All of my BIOS settings are correct as I've already found a thread with my particular MB settings and I changed them to match (2-2-2-5) and the voltage is 2.8v. Anything I missed? Help, PLEASE!!! Thanks in advance. ~Rob
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 1, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 1, 2004 Please make sure that you have the jumper setting at 2-3 for the CPU FSB (200MHz) rather than 1-2 (Default 133/166/200) and make sure that you have the latest BIOS for your MB and load Setup/Optimized default settings, and try the following BIOS settings; TwinX1024 or TwinX512-3200XL CPU Freq: 200 MHz (400 FSB) System Performance: User Define Memory Frequency: 100% Resulting Frequency: 200 MHz (400 FSB) Memory Timing: User Define SDRAM CAS Latency: 2T SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 2T SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 2T SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 5T DDR Reference Voltage: 2.7 or 2.8Volts AGP Voltage: Default *unless you have ATI (9200 or 9600) or NVIDIA (5200 or 5700) then 1.6 Volts suggested!* All other settings are motherboards defaults Then please test them one at a time with http://www.memtest.org and let’s make sure it's not some other issue! I would run the test for at least 2-3 passes to be sure!
Archimedes
I've already done all of that. I've requested an RMA from the vendor, but no reply yet. I find it very disturbing that I've recieved two brand new sticks @$150 each and they are both faulty. Now my brand new computer is nothing more than a paperweight for, what, another week or more due to shipping and handling? *Sigh*
