Ax 860 electrical noise

I would like to know if it's normal to hear a faint electrical noise coming through the psu. It's faint but definitely present and disturbing. Electrical and some cracking sound. Did not expect this at all still present in 2014.

I bought the psu a month ago the store has 30 day return policy to switch to a new one. Guess I will be forçed to RMA and waist more money on a new psu I can't be without my PC very long. Very unpleasant.

Million dollar question is this normal to hear some electrical rattling noise from this specific unit or model, batch? . I really thought I could not go wrong with this psu because it's built for silent operation.

Paper clip test was done outside the case, same thing and my wall outlets are just fine. Help a poor guy out :(:

well i am sorry to say that i have returned the ax 860 to the store, felt "sad" odd.

i think one day my rig will have a Corsair Psu again( credit ax 850) .i expect perfection when paying 170 euros por a psu and most imporant relaying on Corsair , and that means silence is golden zero noice, zero electrical noise coil, what ever it is.

this could just be one case but sadly its wide spread and still presente to this day i dont believe its ever been fixed 100%

best of luck.

Coil whine is not the sign of a defective PSU.

ALL magnetics resonate at different frequencies. Typically, these frequencies are outside the range of human hearing, but every once in a while the noise can drop below 20kHz and can be heard. Manufacturers try to prevent this by making sure the outermost winding of their magnetics are as tight as possible, have plenty of glazing and will use plenty of caulk on the components (though not too much as it is thermally insulating), but it's impossible to get rid of 100% of the noises 100% of the time.

yes i know, but that flickering noise is not for me, maybe just bad luck this time....i will try another brand just have to see for my self, at the end of the year will try another 860 or 860i on a second build i will be planning.

i am aware that Corsair aims for quality performance Aesthetics, and thats why i like Corsair so much but all ways quality first. psu´s can evolve glue them, tape them better i dont now just stop that tension sound, coil whine dont really now what to call it anymore

i dont know if its the "platinum spec" but for sure my 850 AX gold was dead silent.

i have a old psu a cheap one if a stop the fan its dead silent no vibration or clicking sound

I could be that a new one from a other brand could also make that noise. I had a lot of psu's over the years and only the be-quiet 1000w pro7 was almost complete without noise, my ax1200i also make a very slight light noise and I can only hear it when I put my ear next to it. Some mainboards can also trigger this kind of noise with a psu, a Asus RIIE here did this al the time and the Asus RIIIE only with starting the pc till the bios shows up.
