gordong11
Hi all, I'm upgrading an old PC, which is running an AMD Athlon at 1.1Ghz. I just bought a Geforce 6800 GT for the machine, but it's just not powerful enough to take advantage of it. 3d Mark 03 score of 5900. I'm planning on keeping the Hard drives for now and going to upgrade the Processor, Mobo and Ram and see where it's at. here's what I plan on buying: AMD Athlon 64 3400 Abit Av8 Motherboard PC3200 DDR Ram Which Ram is the most compatible? The user is not going to OC the machine Would it be just as easy to upgrade to an Intel platform? or would there be issues? I would think it doesn't matter, but just wanted to check. I love my setup (below), and my PC is extremely stable on Intel. I get 3d Mark 03 score of 11400 with the same Video Card. Thanks for your help
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 2, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 2, 2004 Twinx1024-3200C2 would be a good middle of the road choice. But for best performance I would suggest Twinx1024-3200XL.

RAM GUY: Would the Twinx1024-3200XL DDR400 provide better performance than the DDR 550 TWINX1024-4400C25? The DDR400 apparently has lower timings but the DDR 550 has more mhz right? Whats more important lower timings or higher mhz? EDIT: Which would provide better FPS without overclocking, just both at stock.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted May 27, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted May 27, 2005 I am not sure that MB would over clock to the frequency needed to run XMS4400C25. XMS3200XL would still be batter choice for this MB I think, but you might check over at ABIT's user forum and see if any else has that same config and how high they have it over clocked. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted May 27, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted May 27, 2005 Yes they are compatible, but as I said you would have to over clock the CPU to run them at their rated speed. These modules will indeed run at DDR400, but if you will run at DDR400 then XMS3200XL would be a better choice.
