zeekle
Looking into putting my next build into an air 540 but I have not been able to find much info on what optical drives will work with it. Many have talked about tabs on their drives that hold disks in but my current drives I have they do not have those tabs so I am pretty sure I will need to get something new. Its not something I will use often (OS install being the main one) so I could go the external route but why mess with that when the case has slots for it. thanks in advance. wytnyt
actually most current made drives are h or v usable.. i dont even think strictly horizontal drives are still made
Friction
The Air 540 has tool free slots for 2 optical drives or 5 1/4 drive bay units. I don't know what all this talk about tabs is about, but any optical drive will fit the same way it will fit in any case.
zeekle
Yeah its no so much installing the drive in the case but having it take a disk and working correctly. The tabs I mean are on the inside of the drive when you have the tray open. It sounds like it might not be an issue. I haven't bought a new drive in a few years. Friction
Optical drives work perfectly fine in the vertical position. You won't have a problem with a new drive.
