Ax850 intermittent starting, is it failing?

Hi

Just wanted to check here first.

I have an ax850 psu for the last couple of years. All seemed to be fine with the psu until recently. It seems to not always start up the system, and sometimes requires a flick of the psu switch to bump it to start.

I have tried the paper clip test, and seems to work a few times, and fails others.

I have tested my mb with another psu and it starts the system every time.

Anyone have any advise to test?

I've had it from new since June 2012

I'm having the same problem.

Purchased in 2012 a AX850 and in the end of 2013 my PC hang and never turn-on again.

The motherboard has died an i purchased a new one.

Then i discovered the problem with the motherboard was the BIOS, so i replaced the BIOS and sold the old motherboard.

Now i have intermmitent power-on problems.

Some times i have to keep pressed the power button for a few seconds and try to power-on.

Other times i unplug the PSU from wall, wait a few minutes and plug again.

This problem is the exact reason why i end up in this forum i have an AX850 that i have for about 2 years now that fail to start "sometimes", and i have tried it in 2 different built.

Do Corsair do cross shipping, because i don't want to end up buying an other psu during the rma process........because this is why we bought the best psu of the moment...right !

To avoid problem ;-)

You can request an advanced rma where the replacement is sent to you first.A credit card is needed for this option.

Hi wytnyt

i'm located in Canada and i would prefer email communication for the advanced RMA since English is not my first language it's easier for me.

So could you direct me to the right place.

Big thanks !

I was under the assumption when starting a RMA the advanced option is available, however yes they do read the comment section but even so they do require credit card info so it still may be best to call to avoid delay.

of course being the PSU is still usable you could also wait until they notify you.

psu is still usable but everyday it's harder to have it start the computer, you know the same feeling as when you are trying to start a fire with wet matches..........

Using a credit card is not a problem.........its just phone communication that i hate where i work it's like a Faraday cage, cell phone communication are terrible.

  • Corsair Employees

You never answered....

And the results of the paper clip trick are.....?

Does it only power up sometimes? Power up every time?

Hope this doesn't end up being a faulty motherboard after all the trouble you've gone through.

  • 2 weeks later...

RMA process is done, i received \ installed the AX860 and the defective one should be delivered to Corsair today.

So far everything is working great. :-)

One little comment, it would be great to have the option to use USPS as a carrier for the replacement......i was lucky to be home to receive the replacement because UPS deliver the new psu at the end of the day.......i'm one of those poor person who must work during day time and i cant be home, snif, snif !!

So being home at the right time can be a problem.

oh and an other suggestion.......why no short cable option for the AX serie psu

being so small (not the AX1200 \ 1500), good chance some will end-up in compact case like mine, in a Silverstone SG10 where every inches are heavily counting.

But other than that ...i'll buy again :-)
