ULTIMATEMALE
Hey there guy and girls, I hope your well and thank you all in advance for reading my thread. I have practically a complete corsair system, having corsair ram, case and PSU. THE PSU I have is a AX 860 Watt PSU. http://www.corsair.com/en-gb/ax860-atx-power-supply-860-watt-80-plus-platinum-certified-fully-modular-psu (The above link is the exact PSU I have) It has become faulty. for two whole months now, I get totally random restarts. the 12V output in particular drops down to 10 volts, I have seen it go as low 9.8 volts. Sometimes I get random black screens whilst computing. I am at a loss for what I should do. The customer service lines have been rather unpleasant and have put me on hold when ever they struggled with a query I put forth. A friend of mine suggested these forums. Hence I am here. I hope I get a better more respectful response here. Regards
Administrators Technobeard Posted August 10, 2014 Administrators Share Posted August 10, 2014 "The customer service lines" - Did you call us, or somewhere else? With us, if your voltage drops that low, it's out of spec and should be replaced barring additional testing (e.g. software readings are notoriously inaccurate, multimeters are best). ULTIMATEMALE
Hey guys sorry for the late response. First of all.. In response to the first post I did call corsair, the numbers on the back of the manual contained within the box for the PSU. The box advertises and thus boasts a 7 yr warranty and I do hope corsair does honor it's claims. In response to the 2nd post. The reading I am giving are you from ASUS AI suite II and more importantly the motherboard Bios. When I get a random restart I go into the motherboard bios and observe the volts beings reported. I have seen it go as low 9.8 volts. I have been having these problems since mid May this year. Almost 3/4 months now. You do not know how frustrating it is to write up an application for a job, and have the computer randomly shut down on you and you loose 1-2 hours worth of work. ULTIMATEMALE
Do you need me to post the serial number of the PSU ?
Corsair Employees jonnyguru Posted August 13, 2014 Corsair Employees Share Posted August 13, 2014 In response to the 2nd post. I have seen it go as low 9.8 volts. Ok. So then we know that the readings are very inaccurate. Never use BIOS/software to troubleshoot voltage issues with a PSU. Always use a DMM. Your readings are coming from the motherboard, not the PSU. So whacked out voltage readings could just as well, if not most of the time, be a motherboard issue. Not a PSU issue. If the voltages from the PSU were really that low, the PC would likely not work at all.
Yellowbeard
As noted, start a support ticket.
Corsair Employees jonnyguru Posted August 13, 2014 Corsair Employees Share Posted August 13, 2014 And if you get a new PSU and the problem continues... you know it's your motherboard that's the problem.
