AceSnyp3r
Well I just built a new computer, and it ran great for a few days, then when I rebooted my computer today, *BAM*, BIOS tells me the RAM failed the R/W test. So I pulled the memory out, and stuck it back in to see if maybe it was a bit loose in there, still got the error. Next thing I tried was pulling out the 2nd stick and just running on the 1st stick. That went well. So I swapped the 1st stick out for the 2nd and got the error again. Then I put the 1st back in, it ran fine, so I concluded that I must have some bad RAM here. I'm using the Value Select "1 GB Memory Module Kit" (2x512), but I can't find a model number anywhere (of course I have no idea where to look either), so where would I find that number? Second, what do I need to do next to get it sent in, tested, and returned/replaced if I have to? My computer specs are: ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe Pentium 4 2.80C Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 120GB PNY GeForce FX5200 AGP 128MB SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS Windows XP Professional I'm not running anything overclocked either. If there's any other info I can provide, just say so, I wanna get this problem resolved ASAP so I can get back to my gaming/3D work, without having to spend $70 on new RAM :sigh!:
AceSnyp3r
I ran memtest86 on my suspected bad module of RAM, and right off the bat it had 1550 errors, while the other module passed all the tests, so there's definately something wrong with it. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 1, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 1, 2004 Please make sure that you have the latest BIOS for your MB and load Setup/optimized default settings, and try the following BIOS settings; VS1GBKIT400 or VS512MB400 Advanced/Jumper Free AI over clocking: Manual CPU Freq: 200 DRAM Clock: 400 MHz Memory or Dim Reference voltage: 2.75 Volts System performance: Standard AGP Voltage: Default *unless you have ATI (9200 or 9600) & nVidia (5200 or 5700) then 1.6 Volts suggested!* Advanced/Chipset Configure Dram timing by SPD: Disabled/User define SDRAM CAS Latency: 2.5T SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 3T SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 3T SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 8T SDRAM Burst Length: 8 Performance Acceleration Mode: Auto or Enabled USB Legacy Support: Disabled All other settings should be set to default settings! Then please test them one at a time with http://www.memtest.org and let’s make sure it's not some other issue! I would run the test for at least 2-3 passes to be sure! AceSnyp3r
Well after an hour or so playing with BIOS/memtest, it's still no-go. The RAM fails everything as I suspected. This is obviously bad RAM, and I need it replaced.
