demon222
Hi RAM guy i have checked the program that will give me the most popular and best overclocking memory for my motherboard but i'd rather ask a pro. I'm going to be getting the Asus P5AD2 Deluxe or Premium and a Intel 3.4 processor to go with it. whats your best pick for speed and all around good performace? Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 2, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 2, 2004 Fastest at default speeds Twin2x1024-4300C3 and if you want to over clock I would go with Twin2x1024-5400C4
demon222
thank you for the suggestions. i have heard that windows pro will not see DDR2 as anything more than DDR1, in which case i'm wasting my money on DDR2. Is this true RAM guy of is this guy just talking trash?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 2, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 2, 2004 Well, there is some truth too what he says, but not the way he is implying. Windows XP and Win2k/WinNT are all based on a 4 layer O.S. kernel and the O.S. and applications do not have direct access to hardware, unlike windows 9X or DOS. So the operating system as you see it in windows would be the same as an application running in Windows and it only se's what it's been given from the O.S. kernel. Example, when you start lets say IE the application will report to the OS how much memory is needs and that's what it's given if the application needs more then it would come from the swap file not active ram. All that being said, Windows as an application does not see the hardware at all only that it needs so much memory it does not know what the memory is, (DDRAM, SDRAM, RDRAM, or DDR2) only that it needs so much memory and the O.S. kernel will decide the size and specific address of said memory! demon222
with all that said is DDR2 really better than DDR1 ?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 2, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 2, 2004 Yes, DDR1 is at its design limit (400MHz), where as DDR2 is designed to reach 800 MHz. So it has twice as much theoretical bandwidth. If you compare DDR1 at 400 MHz and DDR2 at 400 MHz there is little difference. However, this MB in question will at default settings run the memory at 533 MHz and that’s about 300-600 Mbs increase in theoretical bandwidth.
