Corsair Employees Fauxbeard Posted July 30, 2014 Corsair Employees Share Posted July 30, 2014 Simple - manufacturing costs. The tooling for the 650D was designed five years ago. Better processes and tooling allowed for lower manufacturing cost for the 750D.
AMDbigboy
Also, the 650D is a MUCH higher quality case than the cheap crap the new Obsidian cases are made from. Maybe if you go to a Fry's or Micro Center and can look at the 650D vs the new Obsidian cases, you would understand what I saying. Really disappointed in George when it comes to the new Obsidian stuff. I still love Corsair, but the case is very important to me and after Corsair EOLs the 650D this year, Corsair won't have any cases I want to use for future builds. Ahtlon
The old obsidian line, like the 800D/650D has a build Quality that's a little better, but you have to admit, we want new cases from Corsair, bigger, smaller, a design that stick out, cases that are not heavy, price have too stay the same or cheaper. Like if they made the 900D with the same Quality as the old obsidian, we could expect that this case would have a price tag that nobody want to pay, so for getting the price down, you get some hdd cages that are a little flimsy, and that kind of stuff. But I 'm not saying that the quality is low, the quality is very good of the new cases, the old series are a little better. Also you have too know, that Corsair ship there cases different as with the old versions, the old versions had a different box, it was thicker, shiny print on it, the case was packed in softer but thicker packing material, this has a higher price tag, the new ones come with a simply brown box and other packing material inside, so this also make that the new ones are cheaper as the old ones. If you like the 750D , just buy it, it's a awesome case, with a lot place inside. Corsair won't disappoint you, they still makes good quality stuff and there warranty is one of the best. AMDbigboy
Actually the 650D is better quality than the almighty 800D was. If you go to a store that displays the cases, like Micro Center or Fry's, then you would see what I'm talking about when you pick up a 650D vs the new Obsidian cases. I do understand what you are saying though. Corsair is always looking for ways to cut cost, but still offer quality cases. Although the 750D has some great features that the 650D doesn't, aesthetics are huge with me and I just don't like them with the new line of cases. I will still continue to use Corsair for most of my parts. I just bought another 650D, while I could, and will use the new HX1000i PSU. For the most part, you are right, Corsair will not disappoint. Lady Fitzgerald
Fry's has discontinued carrying the 650D and very few stores still have any in stock anymore (and most of those will be display models in pretty tough shape). Fry's is notorious for quickly dropping products being discontinued. I've learned if Fry's starts selling something for significantly less than NewEgg or Amazon, it means they are dropping the product, even if it is still available, most likely due to the manufacturer discontinuing it. AMDbigboy
I actually meant checking out the cases in the past. I know Corsair is going to EOL the 650D by the end of the year. I would be surprised if Fry's even had it. I know Micro Center stopped selling it a couple months back. Sad.
