Administrators Technobeard Posted July 28, 2014 Administrators Share Posted July 28, 2014 The site is fine. The fastest Dominator Platinum 32 GB kit we have is 2666 MHz. Do you have a CPU that can run memory that fast?

wytnyt
this board will run this speed but you still need a top of the line cpu,,i dont even think a 4960 will do this...

wytnyt
what would be a good cpu:confused: I was thinking if it was over clocked then it would run at those speeds thats a really good question,i have a 4930k and my memory maxes out at 2400 i believe ill check out the 4960 from several places see,,all agree the m/b is the biggest factor.,ive also seen blogs where a 4770 and 4930/60 can run 2400.i do know my cpu says 1866 but im running it at 2133. i doubt theres much difference between 2400 and 2800,other than bragging rights i hardly notice the jump from 1866 to 2133 ... emissary42
i hardly notice the jump from 1866 to 2133 ... Well thats probably because quad channel offers a ton of bandwidth already by itself and very few applications are memory bandwidth limited to begin with. The sweet spot for Ivy-E probably is 2133/2400 with some boards, even some of the better ones, start having issues on AUTO settings from a certain speed onwards. I remember some people witnessing oddly low write speeds in synthetic memory benchmarks with ASUS R4BE at DDR3-2400+ for example.
jameyscott
The problem is not what CPU you use, it's about the silicon lottery. You will have to have a IVY-E CPU in order to run those speeds and that would require binning as well. Not all IMCs on the chips are the same, and so it is really just luck of the draw whether or not you get a CPU that can run those memory speeds. You would be better off getting a 2133mhz kit with low latencies (or low voltage to be able and try to get low latencies)
gotto
ok so I found a 300 MHz platinum kit:roll:. http://www.corsair.com/en-ca/site-search?searchQuery=CMD16GX3M4A3000C12 and it's on its way to my house :D:!! the way it was explained to me by asus is that the board will still run the ram at 2800 mhz at the boards max potential so I won't get the full 3000 MHz but the board will still give me the 2800 mhz:cool:
emissary42
It is a 4x4GB kit, thats why nobody was suggesting it. Even though the ASUS support seems pretty confident in their boards capabilities, DDR3-2800 probably won't be plug 'n play. But good luck with your IMC nonetheless! gotto
I didn't feel comfortable with that ram so I cancelled the order and went with CMD32GX3M4A2666C12 instead
HOODedAssault
You should have no big issues with 4 sticks with a little bit of adjusting. Check your cpuvtt voltage after you enable xmp of 2666mhz. Asus boards overvolt the hell out of this voltage (memory controller) when higher speed xmp is enabled. Mine set to like 1.35v and is perfectly stable at 1.1v. Over 1.2-1.25v is dangerous for cpu. Just a heads up.
