badogblue
Just about to order the parts for my new pc, but have a question about cpu/case fan control. Setup Mobo: Asus z97 pro CPU Cooler: h100i Case Fans: x4 I've read that you should use either CL or Fan Xpert and not both. However I have also read that the h100i runs the software on-board and therefore should not interfere with Fan Xpert. Is this true? Basically I want to know how to control all my fans as best as possible? If that means using just Fan Xpert, then should I get the h105 as its the same price? Will I be missing out on much with no CL? Thanks in advance!
antonyfrn
Far as I know ASUS software conflicts with Corsair software ive always avoided having both on my system and tend never to install any software from ASUS due to experiences in the past. HOODedAssault
If you building an entire rig spend the extra $40-$50 on a good fan controller and avoid dealing with software for fan control. So much more frustrating and time consuming then just adjusting it with a knob lol.

HOODedAssault
Why would u have to turn the dials... run a stress test on your cpu or gpu. Run fans at 50% then 100%. There will be maybe 5° difference at most. Just leave the fans on the best noise to performance of users opinion and leave them there. For everyday use your computer is not going to overheat if fans don't rev up automatically. I dunno Imo it's just a waste. N if I did want fans to rev up under load I'd just do it from bios. Don't see the need for it tho. In my 540 I have my h105 fans running at 1400rpm and 2 intake fans running at 900rpm and exhaust fan at rear running at 700rpm. Just a nice low hum and gpu never breaks 65° and cpu max recorded in realtemp is about 60°. That's after like a 4 hour gaming session with both overclocked n cpu is running 1.4v lol. Use the same settings while stress testing because on my setup with all fans on my it's like a 2° difference under load. And obnoxiously loud. badogblue
Thanks for the replies. I did think of a fan controller but that's money that could be better of spent elsewhere. Anyone know if it's true that once you set up the h100i via CL, you can uninstall it and the settings will be stored on the actual h100i, thus preventing conflicts between CL and Asus AI Suite. If not, I will just run everything via mobo and get the h105?
wytnyt
you can just install the h100i and nothing else and the fans will run on a mid balanced mode the software just lets you adjust to a particular preference...

Yeah but they won't adjust based on cpu temp. I think I'll just get the h105 and control everything via Asus AI Suite. CL would have been nice but being able to control all fans in one place seems better.
wytnyt
yes cpu temp is how the balanced fan rpm is adjusted..

Ok thanks, so what would you recommend the h100i in balanced mode with no CL or the h105. Seems the same to me apart from the rad thickness. wytnyt
personally id go with the h100i as this way you still have the option of possibly using the software in the future they both cool @ the same ,,both could have the fans ran elsewhere and the h100i has better overall fitment. of course thats just my opinion
HOODedAssault
I'd go with h105 100%. Just go in cooling section and sift through the thread titles. Like no h110 or h105 issue threads (they use same pump). Hundreds of h100i. Mind you i had 1 before and had no issues. Never used Corsair link tho just used fan controller. Make sure it will fit in your case tho. It doesn't fit in many of corsair cases because there isn't enough space between top of board and top of case in some. wytnyt
true hood there are some issues with the software but it can be used w/out the software and going with the h100i if/when the bugs are ironed out, that option is available with the h100 but not the h105 but i know you prefer mechanical controllers...;):
HOODedAssault
I didn't just mean software bugs lol. Pumps failing firmware failing. List goes on with h100i. Don't think I've seen any h105 or h110 either. Knock on wood lol. Now mine will.

Knock on wood lol. Now mine will.Like another poster told me sometimes the H100i works sometimes it don't i'm sure theres a lot of things involved like OS system setup ect ect. I bought an H100i and I never had any problems with mine knock on wood. though the corsair link needs fixing but that's for another chapter . just like when I bought my 800d there's a lot of post on the internet saying that it wasn't good for cooling well mine's working fine for cooling even when I was using the stock fans. I just ordered the noctua industrial fans so it should be cooler in there now once I install them.

You can control all of your fans with the motherboard you are contemplating. Just check your manual (Chapter 3, beginning on page 3-48). My H100i works just great that way. And, yes, you do NOT want to install Asus' AI Suite. You're just asking for trouble.
