HardwareAddict
VERY disappointed with this product. I should have read this forum before I made the purchase. Now I have a hair dryer running in my rig when gaming. I see this has been a problem since day one. A huge fail for Corsair. I'm thrilled to know that since Corsair refused to fix this crap, my fix is to spend another $40 for a couple new fans that should have came with the unit in the first place, or RMA the P.O.S End rant. :brick:
wytnyt
their powerful fans designed for efficient cooling so yes at full speed obviously they will be loud. how are you controlling them? i have about 32 of these fans in my room and its totally quiet... HardwareAddict
These fans whine like no quality fan I have ever used/purchased before, including high CFM types. There are dozens of post about this going back to the launch of the product. I expect a high performance fan to make noise, (moving high volumes of air). A whining sound is a side effect of poor design and ultimately extremely poor quality control. I find it hard to imagine a group of Corsair product designers/engineers testing out this unit and coming to the satisfactory conclusion that a high pitch whine noise is acceptable. Yes the fans are quite at low/moderate speeds, but I also push my rig for many chores and that is where it spends the majority of it's life, hence why I purchased a liquid cooler. wytnyt
then youll likely want lower sp fans that are quieter but a little less cooling ability will show.
xclock
nothing wrong with those fans. they are design for higher RPM. whining sound some time relate to poor attached to the radiator, case. so check if they are properly secure and fully tight. use the longer screws for that. jameyscott
The stock SP120s on the Hxxi coolers spin at 2700 RPM. They are going to be loud. No manufacter could ever make a fan that spins that fast quiet. If you don't like it then you either need to control it or ditch for another fan. I have both the SP120 PE and Q and can recommend them both. If you want all the performance you can get but don't want to sacrifice on noise, then you should get a fan controller or used the Corsair Link software to control your fans. SP120 PE can be loud (loud is relative) but controlling them gives you the best of both worlds. SP120 QE is pretty much quiet all the time (quiet is relative!) but can be even quieter than the PEs when undervolted. I use the PEs in my main rig where I want to cool as much as possible. (3930k and SLI overvolted 780 Classifieds) and I use QEs in my secondary rig that only has a single graphics card and CPU with dual 360s (soon!) so I just want that rig to be quiet as possible. HardwareAddict
I guess I did not get my point across that the obnoxious noise coming from the fans is not from movement of air, rather a loud high pitch whine. This is due to one or two or both possible reasons. Cheap or defective motor and or bearing assembly. I am not the first to report on this. I have other fans that out perform these and do not make high pitch whine sounds. I will be replacing them, that is what I am complaining about. This is a known problem and Corsair does nothing to remedy the issue. For what it's worth I have several Corsair products and they've always lived up to their name. This was just my first disappointment.
