Corsair obsidian 650D problem.

Hi,

I have the corsair obsidian 650D for a couple of months now and its working flawlessly until now, the hot swap able mount in the top suddenly does not work anymore and my white LED that indicates if the HDD is turned on is not working as well.

Is there something replaceable of this case? or do i have to do an RMA?

Thnx in advance

Does this happen with just one drive or is it happening with multiple drives?

Its broken, i tried to connect it with USB and it works and later i connected it strait to my MB without problems. It does not work anymore sadly because that was one of the things i liked about this case.

Is it actually physically broken? In other words, can you see damage?

No you can't see it, it just stopped working and causing all kinds of problems all of a sudden.

first my HDD was not recognized, than i got boot issues and the PC froze at the point that i only get an black screen, i had to reset my PC several times to get it to boot.

Now when i have disconnected the sata cable of my motherboard i no longer have those issues. I don't know what is wrong but i do know that it almost cause my os to corrupt and maybe some more damage if i had not disconnect it from my motherboard.

This is not the first time i have problems with Corsair stuff too, I have the Corsair H100i and first the fans making a terrible wining noise, i did an RMA and got 2 new fans that are working nicely. Than the LED on the cooler is not displaying blue lite anymore so its broken too.

I love their products and the outstanding service but i rather would like to hav something that actually works longer than a year, so to be honest i am pretty steamed about these issues as you probably can understand.

Ok, I certainly understand your frustration but bear with me some more. You anticipated my next question when you said you had disconnected the SATA cable from your MOBO so we have that out of the way. Have you tried plugging that cable into different SATA port (this hopefully will be the last question before I suggest a possible fix)?

thank you for your fast reply, and yes i did connected it to another port and same result.

Like i said before, my HDD is working well when i connected it with my other Sata cable and with USB.

there is only one explanation and that is that the mounting system is not functioning correctly. Also the HDD LED is not working.

Ok, it sounds like the connector the drives plugs into has gone bad. The connector is held in by a single, large head screw you access from the bottom of the outside of the swap bay inside the case (why Corsair came up with that crazy arrangement to mount the connector is beyond me, especially since there are already two perfectly good mounting ears on the connector and, had they used them here, the screws would have been much easier to get at). To get at it, you will have to remove all or most of the devices in the 5.25" bays. The easiest way to work on it is to turn the case upside down or on its side.

If the case is still under warranty, then you need to submit a ticket. Otherwise, you can order a replacement from here. Don't let the part name scare you; many Corsair parts were used in several of their cases and, for some wacky reason, Corsair doesn't cross reference them in their store.

I just ordered a couple spares of the same connector for my 650D, even though I haven't started using the case yet, just to make sure I would have backups should the little bugger ever fail on me.

Yes the connector is bad, i didn't know i could replace it.

You do know its the 540 air connector you just linked? Is that the same or is it shorter or longer? I sure don't want it to be longer because that would make a mess.

I am still under warranty so i should submit a ticket but how am i gonna do that? Its been too long i submitted a ticket lol

To submit a ticket, click on the tab above that says Support Ticket System and follow the prompts.

As I said earlier, don't let the fact that it is the one for the 540 Air throw you. Corsair uses many parts in multiple cases. For example, the 650D HDD trays are used in at least four different cases I can think of (650D, 650T, 750D, and 300R) and the same cages are used in at least three of them (650D, 650T, and 750D). What's really weird is the Corsair Store lists the same tray under two separate part numbers that I'm aware of, one for the 600T and one for the 300R, and charges almost three times as much for the 600T part as it does for the 300R.

I haven't picked up the ones I ordered yet from my mail service (my allergies and back have been acting up; getting old is for the birds) but I strongly suspect the cables are the same length. If longer, one could always tuck away the excess and, if shorter, one could always use an extension for the power cable and get a coupler to join another SATA cable to the existing one.

Ugh..

I tried to fill in the part number but it keeps saying that the part number does not exist.

I called them too and they had no information about this... so i just needed to speak to an robot to make them call me back... that costs me a lot of money because i am from Holland.

I am really pretty steamed about this and seriously considering never buying Corsair stuff again because i had nothing but trouble with the stuff i purchased from them...

Curious. Did you click on Add to Cart, then go to the cart to finish the order? I just did that and it showed up in the cart without a problem. I will admit using Corsair's can be a bit frustrating at times but this should go on through (unless your being overseas has something to do with it; we need a Corsair tech to chime in here).

  • Corsair Employees

I'm sorry to hear this. Please visit this link: http://corsair.force.com/

Register, log in, and submit a ticket using this part number:

CC-8930148, and please add this part number in comment section: CC-8930025

(hot swap cable and I/O panel replacement)

You can also add the link to this post so you don't have to explain the whole situation again.

Once you get the ticket number, post it in this thread so I can process the ticket.

Thanks.

Thank you for your fast reply,

I tried to do an RMA but the product code is not correct or there is something wrong here.

When i filled in an RMA it keeps saying: ''select a part number'' when i click next.

I tried with Obsidian and with Carbide but both is a no go.I also tried with the other part number but it does not work at all, i can't get past the next button.

After getting to the RMA screen, first, fill in the Ticket Subject and Ticket Description boxes. Be sure to include the information Corsair Shaman requested.

Click on the little V on the right side of the Select Product Family box and click on Case.

After that, click on the V on the right side of the Select Product Series box and click on Obsidian.

Type 650 in the Select Part Number box, then click on the little magnifying glass just right of the box. On the list that pops up, click on the CC650DW-1 number. The part number of the hot swap bay connector isn't listed so just use the number of the case itself and explain what it is you need in the Ticket Description box. I also found you can't (or, at least, I couldn't) type in a part number and get the form to be accepted; you have to select it from the menu (weird).

Click on the V in Select Problem Description and select The case has a defective part.

Click on the box to the right of I don't have a lot code.

Click on Submit.

Hopefully that will get the RMA to go through. Be sure to post the RMA number in this thread.

I would like to know how much time does it cost to make an RMA.

A guy named Kelvin D. from technical support filled in an RMA for me 4 days ago and i still have no email back when the shipping is finding place.

Its been over a week now when i reported my problem, i wonder why does it take that long because the other time i had my parts by now.

2-4 days? i am waiting for more than a week now and i would like to use my case as it suppose to be.

I also contacted corsair George but no reply so far. The guy named Kelvin D. has still not respond to me about the status of my RMA.

I am not very happy with this because the last time i did an RMA i had my parts within 4 days and now i wait more than a week for the RMA to get shipped.

I am little sad because i like Corsair products and the aesthetics of it but they do not last a long time and since every product from Corsair keeps breaking down i am seriously considering not going for Corsair again because i hate things that break down that fast and especially for this price its unacceptable in my opinion.
