toddnunez94
Let me first start out by saying that Corsair is my All-Time favorite go-to company when it comes to computer parts. I love my AX860, H100i, Vengeance Pro, 750D, and all the SP120/AF140's. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE CORSAIR. Here's my issue with these SP120 PWM fans. I have RMA'd quite a few fans due to chirping and grinding, and also the screw holes getting popped out when trying to screw it down. Today, I received aother replacement because two screws completely stripped out the holes (see pictures). Then, when installing the new ones, It happened again. SO IRRITATING. And when I was replacing them, I noticed one of my bottom SP120 fans (Push Pull H100i) started grinding again. Now I'm stuck with new fans, while one has a screw holes completely out, so its not secured down, and the other is grinding. I would love to send them in again, but I have returned about 3 sets of fans because of this type of issue. I don't want Corsair to think I'm cheating them. Can I get a corsair employee to comment on this thread? or should I just call them and open up another RMA for a total of 4 fans (2 twin packs) The pictures show the fans that I have to send back in from the RMA I received today
toddnunez94
I have just called Corsair customer service, and they let me open up an RMA for both fans. Corsair, I seriously can't thank you enough. The company is by far the best out there, and they deal with the customers in such a great manner. They have never let me down. This is why I continue to keep my business with you!

Lady Fitzgerald
use a drop of oil or a dab of Vaseline on your next fans and they will thread in... Bar soap would be a better thread lubricant than a petroleum product, which can damage plastics. Make sure you don't over tighten the screws; snug is all you need. wytnyt
a lubricant cuts the threads,id think if/when deterioration happened, the fan would be long worn out.;):
toddnunez94
Alright thanks guys. But you are all saying different things... oil, Vaseline, or bar soap... Which one is it :) And how exactly do you mean when it comes to applying it? Do I just dab the screw with it, or inside the screw hole? The new fans should be here in 2 days or so. Got to love the Express RMA :) I seriously hope I don't have an issue with the new sets. Its getting irritating, as all I want to do it enjoy my rig. Thanks again
Lady Fitzgerald
I just rub one side of the screw on the soap to get a little bit into the threads; it doesn't take much. I prefer soap over any petroleum product because it is possible that the petroleum might soften the plastic (then again, depending on the kind of plastic, it might not but why take chances?). Beeswax is also good but is a bit harder to find. Paraffin (the waxy stuff, not what the British call what we in the use call kerosene) is a petroleum product; most candle wax is paraffin nowadays. Whatever lubricant you use, if any (personally, I never use any on fans), just make sure you don't over tighten the screws. It doesn't take much torque to strip (rip-out) the threads formed in the plastic of the fan so just gently snug them up. they don't have to be really tight; just barely snug enough that there isn't any movement between the fan and the case.
