Faulty Memory?

OS_1976

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have a set of Corsair TWIN CMX 1024 - 3200XLPro (2x 512) memory sticks and I believe one of the sticks to be faulty.

I have an MSI 865PE Neo2-P Platinum using a P4 2.8 Prescott CPU and trying to use dual channel configuration. With the sticks in I am unable to even install windows xp and keep getting file copy errors.

I believe that one of the sticks of the pair is faulty, I have used MemTest86 and run on eash stick individually, one stick comes out with zero errors but the other has over 90000 error after the first pass!!!

This is further proved when installing xp with the good stick is successful and fails with the bad stick.

Please advise?

Please make sure that you have the latest BIOS for your MB and load Setup/optimized default settings, and try the following BIOS settings;

TwinX1024 or TwinX512-3200XL

Advanced Chipset/DRAM Timing

DRAM Clock: 400 MHz

Configure Dram timing by SPD: Disabled/User define

SDRAM CAS Latency: 2T

SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 2T or 3T (per Wired recommendation)

SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 2T

SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 5T

SDRAM Burst Length: 8

Frequency Voltage Control

CPU Frequency: 200

Memory or Dim Reference voltage: 2.75 Volts

AGP Voltage: Default *unless you have ATI 9200 or 9600 then 1.6 Volts suggested!*

All other settings should be set to default settings!

Then please test them one at a time with http://www.memtest.org and let’s make sure it's not some other issue! I would run the test for at least 2-3 passes to be sure!

Thanx for your responses, I have the latest BIOS for my mobo and changed the BIOS settings as suggested....

CAS Latency - 2

RAS Precharge - 2

RAS to CAS delay - tried 2 and 3 (as suggested by Wired)

Precharge delay - 5

Burst length - 8

CPU bus - 200

DDR power voltage - 2.75

AGP power voltage - 1.60 (I have ATI 9600)

Ran MemTest86 on each stick individually for 3 passes and one stick passes with no errors but the 2nd stick still has over 90000 errors on each pass!!!
