sir_rob
I have noticed some instability recently and I tested the RAM. It fails pretty quickly with tests such as Prime95 and memtest86. I put in a stick of VS512MB400 that passes all the stability tests for more than 24 hours. I figure if the value RAM is stable and the high-end RAM isn't, it is time to send it in. Thanks, -Rob PS - I was running it at the reccomended speed and max voltage within warranty on an ABIT NF7-S.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 28, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 28, 2004 Can you tell me the make and model of MB you have along with the CPU speed and it’s FSB as well? In addition, please tell me the bios settings you have set for both CPU and memory and any performance settings that you may have set?
sir_rob
The motherboard is an ABIT NF7-S (as previously stated twice) and the timings were set at 2-3-3-7. The CPU is an athlon 2500 running with a 400 FSB. I just completed another 45+ hours without any errors with the slower value Corsair RAM. The voltage was set to 2.8. The CPU interface is enabled. Let me know what else you would like to know. Thanks, Rob
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 29, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 29, 2004 Please make sure that you have the latest BIOS for your MB and load Setup/Optimized default settings, and try the following BIOS settings; VS1GBKIT400 or VS512MB400 CPU Freq: 166 MHz (333 FSB) System Performance: User Define Memory Frequency: 166 MHz (333 FSB) CPU/DRAM ratio: 1:1 Memory Timing: User Define SDRAM CAS Latency: 2.5T SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 3T SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 3T SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 8T DDR Reference Voltage: 2.7 Volts AGP Voltage: Default *unless you have ATI 9200 or 9600 then 1.6 Volts suggested!* All other settings are motherboards defaults Then please test them one at a time with http://www.memtest.org and let’s make sure it's not some other issue! I would run the test for at least 2-3 passes to be sure!
sir_rob
Thank you for yor reply, however it is not the cheap RAM that is failing. I have the latest BIOS and I know that everything is up to date. The computer is totally stable with the value RAM, but not the CMX512-3500C2PT. My stick of CMX512-3500C2PT is not stable and needs to be replaced. Could you help me replace my stick of CMX512-3500C2PT? Thank you for your help. -Rob
