mstrhck
Hi! I recently upgraded my machine with the following parts: Abit AS8 Corsair 1024 twinx-3200XL DDR (2-2-2-5 posted latency) P4 3GHz Antec 450W PSU I also have an ATI 9800 Pro video card. No OC'ing. As part of the upgrade, I reformatted both of my hard drives and made a fresh XP install, flashed my BIOS to latest version, and d/l'd all newest drivers including the intel chipset drivers for my motherboard. I was getting BSOD's in XP, generally during or after running various games (which happen to be the only resource-intensive applications I run on my computer). The most common error was the IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL one, but I got some others as well at various points. I started running memtest86+ (memtest86 reboots my machine sometimes when I try to run it) and came up with errors within the first few tests. After playing around with various settings, I found that setting my latencies to 2-2-3-5 at least allows me to run memtest through test 4 with no errors. I haven't yet received a BSOD running with these settings, but I need more time to feel comfortable saying that the issue is resolved by the latency settings. The last tweak I tried was changing my AGP V to 1.60 and DDR VDD to 2.70 (they're actually running at about 1.66 and 2.78, respectively). I still get errors within the first 4 tests with the default latency settings, but none with the 2-2-3-5 values. Am I being too picky or should I change in my set? Perhaps there is something else I overlooked? Thanks in advance for any advice or info. :)
Wired
Actually, I believe that's a known problem with the 865/875 chipset, where it has to be 3, not 2, for that one setting. It's the SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD), correct?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 28, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 28, 2004 Please put the memory module on slot 1 & 3; make sure that you have the latest BIOS for your MB, and set the following settings on your BIOS; TwinX512 or TwinX1024-3200XL Advanced Chipset: Memclock Mode: Limit Memclock Value: 2:1 (DDR400) Bank Interleaving: 4/Enabled Burst Lenght: 4 SDRAM CAS Latency: 2T SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 2T SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 5T SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 2T Softmenu Spread Spectrum: Enabled CPU FSB Clock: 200 DDR Voltage: 2.7/2.75 Volts AGP Voltage: Default *unless you have ATI 9200 or 9600 then 1.6 Volts suggested!* All other settings should be set to default settings! Then please test them one at a time with http://www.memtest.org and let’s make sure it's not some other issue! I would run the test for at least 2-3 passes to be sure!
