kbharadia
This combination of MB and RAM (2 sticks 256MB, dual channel) seems to result in frequent reboots - sometimes even before windows has fully loaded. This is definately a compatibility issue as I've tried a single Crucial Ballistix stick which seems to work perfectly. Here's what else I've tried: 1) Swap sticks - problem remains 2) 1 stick installed at a time - problem remains 3) Update BIOS to latest release version - problem remains 4) Both sticks in a Chaintech A64 system - A64 system works perfectly. It's the combination that causes the problem. There are no RAM settings in the BIOS to alter so I'm not sure what else to try. Any suggestions? Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 28, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 28, 2004 Can you tell me the CPU speed and it’s FSB as well? In addition, please tell me the bios settings you have set for both CPU and memory and any performance settings that you may have set? Also what is the speed of the other makers modules? kbharadia
The BIOS has no settings for the CPU or memory The CPU is an AXP 2600+ running at I presume default settings. I'm using the integrated video - this causes the RAM speed to clock down to DDR333 which I checked with CPUID so the RAM is actually running below spec. There are no other RAM modules in the system (only 2 DIMM slots). There are no performance enhancement settings in the BIOS that I can find. It's worth mentioning that the A64 system I've tried the memory on runs oveclocked with the memory speed set at 230MHz and it seems to be perfectly stable. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 28, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 28, 2004 If the modules will run at 230 MHz on another MB then I would doubt it's the module. However, you said before that other makers memory works in this system; can you tell me the part# and speed of the other memory that worked? kbharadia
The memory that works is a single stick of Crucial Ballistix, 512MB. The part number is BL6464Z402. It's PC3200 CAS2 rated. The Corsair modules are 2 sticks of Value Select VS256MB400 CAS2.5 running dual channel on the AXP system and single channel in the A64 system. (I've tried single channel with 1 Corsair module on the AXP system - that doesn't work either.)
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 29, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 29, 2004 Some of the Value based MB's like this just will not run well with Value Based memory. I would see if the reseller will let you exchange your Value Select for our Twinx1024-3200LL or XL instead!
