JDA50
Hello... I am new to the forum. I bought a Corsair H80i hydro liquid cooling system to replace the one that failed on my sons computer. I thought the site that I bought it from said that it would fit on all AMD systems. I have an AMD Phenom II x6 1100T Black Edition. The instructions say to "align the bracket with the Stock AMD mounting clips as shown and then tighten the thumb screws." I don't see any standard mounting bracket. Once I removed the old liquid cooling system there isn't anything left on the board to mount the H80i to? Has anyone else mounted the H80i to an AMD Phenom II? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

jameyscott
Make sure and remove your current thermal paste when you install the new cooler! If that's from the H80i, make sure and pick up some more and you will need to clean the surface of the H80i block as well.
JDA50
Yes... I will remove the thermal paste before install. I just need to figure out how to install this on my system. The install instructions say to use a small square bracket that fits on to the standard mounting clips. I posted pictures that show there isn't any standard mounting clips or bracket?? wytnyt
while im not familiar with an amd,the hydro kit does come with a backplate that mounts on the back of the m/b how old is your m/b?
JDA50
The motherboard is two years old. There is a back plate in the box but it is only used for Intel board installations... The AMD installation instructions show a square bracket that mounts on the square hydro H80i and then that is supposed to mount on the standard AMD mounting bracket but there isn't a standard mounting bracket on the motherboard. I am thinking I may have bought a cooling system that isn't designed for the AMD Phenom II motherboard?? Any thoughts>?

thenosbod
I think the standard CPU cooler bracket was removed when the original water cooled system was fitted to the motherboard, see mobo manual linked below. http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M5A97/HelpDesk_Manual/ If you can not find yours you may pick one up from e bay http://www.asus.com/uk/Motherboards/M5A97/gallery/
JDA50
You are a genius "thenosbod"... After looking into your suggestion, that is exactly what happened. I thought I was going to lose my mind trying to figure out why the H80i wouldn't mount to my system. The computer came new with a liquid cooling system that had it's own style of mounting base/bracket. This means they took off the original AMD CPU cooling fan bracket. I searched Ebay and Amazon for a replacement and purchased one for $5.00 on Amazon. Thank you for your assistance, it is much appreciated!! JDA50
I got the new standard AMD bracket and I am going to install the H80i tonight. The H80i comes with a thin layer of thermal paste already pre-applied on it. Should I also put thermal paste on the CPU or is what comes pre-applied on the H80i enough or adaquate? Any help on this would be appreciated. Thank you!!
thenosbod
The paste that come with the cooler is good. no more paste should be added . providing it is in good condition and not been knocked or rubbed off in any way. If it as been damaged then I would clean it off and apply some fresh good quality TIM.
