Jayme88
So I picked up a new case and at the same time, picked up the Corsair H100i cpu cooler. Somewhat disappointing so far (unless Im doing something wrong), but thought I'd get some feedback, suggestions if (if anything) I can do to help it cool better. I put the H100i in my new HAF XM case. Tight fit but its in. Got it hooked up and testing it out, it doesn't seem to cool much better then my previous air cool cpu cooler.. I have an i5 3570K @ 3.4Ghz. My idle is 38 to 42C and when I benchmark with Prim95, I'm maxing pushing 80C! With all fans at 100%. So what can I do to help my temps? I used as little Antec Formula 7 Thermal paste as I could. (little drop then spread with included tool). Tightly screwed the cooler on. (Did this twice) Could it be not enough thermal paste? Could it be the way I applied it? Fans blowing in or out didn't make much difference. Check in Bios, cpu current at 1.10V, ff that matters... Thanks. Synthohol
I used as little Antec Formula 7 Thermal paste as I could. why? it came with the perfect TIM already on it. did you clean it off by mistake? or add AF7 on top of the TIM? also you should never need to spread paste, it spreads on its own without airgaps
HOODedAssault
Take block off cpu and clean all thermal paste off with rubbing alcohol and put a small drop on cpu about 1/2 the size of a pea. Then put block on and hold down with even pressure while you put all 4 nuts on with the other hand. Stagger tightening of nuts. Top left then bottom right etc.
Jayme88
Cleaned it with rubbing alcohol, applied past, stagger tighten, same temps. Repeat with fans pushing instead of pulling, same temps. Hitting 78-79C while gaming. I pretty much give up. I guess I should return it and go for a 'higher end' air cooler as I was getting the same, even slightly better cooling with my previous air cooler. Think the Cooler Master V8 GTS is a good investment?
sandstorm1
temps with new paste will run a bit high. once the paste sets the temps will drop some.
JaegerBane
Even with new paste, ~80C while gaming on that kind of cpu is very hot. Even once the paste cures one cannot realistically expect more than a 10C drop, max. As a yardstick, my h80i keeps my 3930K at high 40s-low 50s while gaming, with my idles being ~2-3c cooler than his. Jayme, are you sure the cooling block is snug and tight against the cpu? Does it move at all? Is there a chance that you could have squished the paste to one side when installing it? Basically your temps make it sound like the cpu block isn't flush in it's covering of the cpu. If the cooler wasn't working you'd see temps of 100C+, if it was properly fitted it would be anywhere around 45C-60C while gaming. Check the fans are both running too. HOODedAssault
3930k has solder between cpu and ihs. 3570k is a whole not her beast. Delid or give up lol. My 4770k dropped 18°C after delid. Use coolabratory liquid ultra.
Nichrome
Make sure you screw the cooler properly. Thumb screwing is NOT enough (same story here) so used screwdriver and gave it a little bit more push and I was good to go. Otherwise my i5 (no OC) was hitting around 80*C :)
Salemik
I have a H100i on my i7 3820 and even pushed flat out I struggle to get it above 31 deg. It's a great cooler even if the lights do pack up. I do allow "Corsair link" to rev the fans up a bit as the temps rise. I do suspect that the paste and block fit need checking out and that doesn't mean overtightening! Just finger tight then about a quarter turn with a driver in cross sequence.
snapper69
Is the backing plate on correctly?
SBKDisco
I had a similar problem when I first fitted my refurbished H80. I found out via another forum that the Cooling Block can sit on top of some of the capacitors which are on the motherboard next to the CPU. This prevents the block from sitting flush on the CPU. I rotated my cooling block by 1/4 turn and it was no longer sitting on the capacitors allowing me to tighten it down properly. Now I get CPU temps around 49c to 52c while gaming. My previous Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro which I bought for my previous Socket 775 board over six years ago was allowing my CPU to go as high as 52c to 55c. (You aren't the only one who's very dissapointed with the Hydro's performance)
Vengeance616
I got really similar idle and load temps as you using Artic Silver 5 with i5 4690k. I have a feeling we got faulty pumps or something. :(
