Corsair Vengeance Pro 2x2x4GB??

Hello all,

After summer holidays I am planning to increase the amount of RAM I have from 1x4 (Corsair <3) to 4x4 Vengeance Pro (red).

But my question is: Do you think it will work fine if I "mix" 2 kits of 2x4GB from same seller, same model etc? (1600mhz). I am asking because buying one kit of 4x4GB is more expensive than buying 2 separate kits, and it doesn't appeal to me to pay more than 150 GBP. Yes, if I would have millions on my account, I would not bother but since I am a teenager every penny matters.

Thanks

There's always a very small chance that it may cause issues, but if it's the same model number and specs then you should be fine. I mixed 2 kits of 2x8GB dimms of vengeance that were the same model number and it was completely fine, but your mileage may vary.

Good luck!::pirate::

Great Thanks :)

Asking, because I am quite active MSI forum user and there they just say that even if same kit etc etc they shouldn't be mixed. Wanted to make sure I don't waste money on postage to Corsair in case these won't work together.

But still, even if won't work, I've heard that Corsair has great warranty service :)

The general consensus seems to be: Mixing kits is not advised and stability is not guaranteed, but most users have no problems using two kits of the same type together.

Please note, that the version numbers (= ICs used) can vary quite a bit on lower end kits. You can find those on printed on the label at the heatspreaders. If these are identical between the two kits, there's a very good chance you won't run into any issues mixing these.

  • 3 weeks later...

OK. Bought 2 kits (2x4GB@1600 red) but I can't test these yet. On holidays until September.

These 2 kits are sadly with different ICs... But as far as I remember (can't be bothered to go upstairs) one kit is like xxxx58 and the other xxxx61.

But just "in case": if these 2 kits doesn't work together, what are my options?

Ok:

1 code is overall module's/series code: CMY8GX3M2A1600C9R so same on both kits.

Then other code (on all 4 sticks and on both packages): 142106946

And last one that appears on all sticks but in all cases is different:

364261/364266 2nd kit: 364257 364258

This suggests me that I should run these without an issue right? :)

Thanks in advance

These are not the Version Numbers. You find these right next to the Voltage at the sticker on the modules, for example ver3.24, ver4.13 or ver5.29. But since your kits seem to be from the same Lot, the version should also be identical and they probably run together just fine. In the end you have to find that out for yourself.

Anways: if it doesn't work together, what am I left with? Because getting a refund on 1 kit is not going to work as I bought these 2 kits in Poland and when I get back home (UK) I won't be able to get money back. Is Corsair available to help me out somehow with this?

I still hope they'll work fine, but asking just in case they don't :(
