R45
G'day, I have a Toshiba Satellite A65-S126 Laptop and a Corsair VS512SDS333 LOT#0439090-2 Memory stick in it. Since I put in the Memory, the laptop has had random Stop Errors (IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL) and reboots. This laptop never had this behaviour prior to installing the memory module. These errors happens sometimes twice a day, other times every other day. They are completely random, sometimes occuring when the Laptop is idle. I ran memtest86 on the module with 2 passes and no errors were detected. According to Microsoft, the Stop Error I'm receiving could be due to either a Memory referencing error or a conflicting driver. I have not installed any new hardware recently. (Source: http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/Windows/XP/all/reskit/en-us/Default.asp?url=/resources/documentation/Windows/XP/all/reskit/en-us/prmd_stp_hwpg.asp) If you ask for BIOS settings, there are no options to configure in Toshiba's BIOS with regards to Memory & Bus speeds. Wired
Welcome to the forums! Is it running by itself or with other memory? You may want to try it by itself in multiple slots to eliminate a possible compatibility issue, or a slot issue.
R45
Hi, This laptop has only one available slot. It has 192MB Ram onboard which cannot be removed.
Wired
Erk, that presents a unique problem then.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 28, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 28, 2004 Please try to contact Toshiba and ask them for any memory specification or compatibility for your notebook and see what they say.
R45
Correction: Onboard memory is 256MB, of which 64 is used for Video. Memory Speed: PC2100 (266Mhz) Memory Technology: DDR-SDRAM (DDRRAM) Installed Memory: 256 MB Maximum Memory: 1.25 GB
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 28, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 28, 2004 I am sorry, but since you have memory on the MB you may need to use the memory specified by the MB maker. Or you can try one of our JEDEC compliant modules that should not be a problem with this model like CM512SDS-2100!

Can you guarantee this will work with my Laptop? I don't want to waste more money on modules, I already have a VS512SDS333 to spare.
Wired
I don't think anyone except for Toshiba can guarantee that.
R45
I don't think anyone except for Toshiba can guarantee that. Other Memory providers, for example Crucial, will guarantee the compatibility of Memory with the system. This -> http://www.crucial.com/store/MPartspecs.Asp?mtbpoid=46B236ECA5CA7304&WSMD=Satellite+A65+Series&WSPN=CT405625 <- is the part Crucial guarantees me will work (or my money back). I really would prefer to buy Corsair instead as I've always had confidence in their memory. The reason I bought the VS512SDS333 is because (I thought) it matched the specs of my system. Wired
Let's put it this way. Both Corsair and Crucial, and any other mem company can guarantee compatibility with the laptop itself, however they may not be able to guarantee compatibility with the onboard memory, as the ICs on that memory may not like to play well with other ICs. If I'm reading Ram Guy's post right, I think that's why he mentioned memory specified by Toshiba. Ultimately with JEDEC spec'd memory, they have a HIGH percentage of being compatible, but ultimately they are designed by different companies and they may have their own quirks. Basically I'm playing devil's advocate here. It'll probably play with the Toshiba just fine, but I don't think anyone can guarantee it 100%. 99% maybe, but not 100%. I'm just someone who looks at every possibility of everything. Either way, this is of course my personal opinion, as I don't work for Corsair. R45
I completely understand what you're saying. What I'm looking for is a "If it doesn't work, it can be returned for a refund", i.e. from the manufacturer. I know no one can say "it will work and never have any problems ever", but atleast they offer a recourse if it doesn't work. Perhaps I could return the VS512SDS333 for a CM512SDS-2100 (Paying whatever difference there is between the two.)? I purchased the VS512SDS333 from Newegg however the do not sell the CM512SDS-2100. Wired
Problem is, since Corsair doesn't sell memory to the consumer at all, they have nothing set up to do refunds like that. Now if there came a time where Corsiar eventually did that, then that would be a definite possiblity. Right now though the only recourse is through the reseller. Unfortunately I'll have to try someone else, thank you for your time.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 29, 2004 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 29, 2004 Based on the information you gave and what's available with this system, I would not suggest using our Value Select. However, CM64SDS512-2100 should be no problem with this system!
