timmyd
Hi I only just brought a H80i a week after I installed it, the audio went on my motherboard which I have sent off for warranty. My question is should I remove the thermal paste from the cooler (and cpu) and put new compound on there, or as it hasnnt been that long just leave it? Thanks for any advice, total noob here. thenosbod
New thermal paste should be applied every time you fit a CPU cooler.
LangZone
Agreed, always re apply new paste. I use Arctic MX-4 and found that it works slightly the best. But you can buy cheaper thermal paste that will do just as well (maybe 1 - 2 degree difference). Just stay away from off brand ebay stuff because who knows what you're going to get. :)
JKeifer
:D: If the thermal paste you buy off eBay has a slightly refreshing minty smell, you can call Crest or Colgate for application instructions :D:
RDhanur
Re-apply with proven & tested with good result thermal paste like G3l1d GC 3xtreme, N0ctu4 NT H1 (too bad corsair don't make one).

Nichrome
Hmm I am using MX4 but I am thinking about getting Coollaboratories Liquid paste. According to some benchmarks and comparisons of thermal pastes, difference in temps between MX4 and coollaboratories is around 7 degrees (Celsius) :D But it seems to be VERY hard to apply and quite expensive as one "tube" lasts for one or two applies. LangZone
That will for sure work (just make sure you don't use it on any aluminum (h80i is copper so you're cool there). It is also extremely hard to remove and in my opinion not really worth it. One benchmark may get 7 degrees less but that does not mean you will. If you do try it let us know. ::pirate::
snapper69
I heard that Corsair use Shin-Etsu paste with the H100i. sadly I heard it after I'd done some research and found out that the Shin-Etsu was one of the best and bought some. It was described as "a thermal pad in a tube". Still, I'm sure that it will come in useful. I also read a test of the various ways to apply tim and the best method was to apply it as a thin X. Go figure.
Nichrome
Friend from MSI Forum has tried it (Moderator in fact), Quotes of his experience: "Previously with the stock corsair TIM, I was 35C-40C at normal and 60C during stress. Spreading it is cool, it is like playing with mercury. Only not as liquidly. Much more akin to liquid aluminum or somewhere between." "I just ordered some for giggles. We shall see." "This stuff is amazing! My idle temp/normal usage is now 25C-30C Ambient: 18C After Folding for 1 HR, Max was 40C That is running at 4.6Ghz "
