HX850 and UPS Compatibility

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Just built my first rig, and I'm using the HX850. Here's a link to my rig: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/tt8x99

I've heard good things about having a UPS. I'm currently looking at the "CyberPower CP1350PFCLCD PFC Sinewave UPS 1350VA 810W PFC Compatible Mini-Tower". (see link below)

My apologies up front if any of my questions seem really ridiculous. I know next to nothing about a UPS, outside of my reading on the sine wave issue (discussed below), and I just want to ensure I don't jack up my rig or ruin my PSU. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks to all.

My questions are:

1. Is there any kind of "compatibility" issue I should be concerned with in this match of PSU and UPS? What I'm referring to here is any kind of "stress" on the system, anything that could go wrong, anything I'm just not seeing? Is there any issue with the power supply I'm currently using, that being the HX850 in my build, and using the CP1350PFCLCD model?

2. Is the difference in watts (850 on the power supply vs 810 on the UPS) an issue? My system only draws somewhere in the vicinity of ~500 watts, but I wasn't sure if the inconsistency between the PSU and the UPS was going to be an issue.

A little background: I'm looking at this UPS in particular because I've read up a bit on the sine wave issue with the UPS to PSU. I've been informed that the PSUs using Active Power Factor Correction (PFC) require a sine wave UPS, and that a simulated (stepped) sine wave simply will not do. All that said, I wanted to send this out to all those who are better informed than myself. Any comments and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to all!
