H100i USB drivers causing DirectX Direct Input crashes

Hi,

I am using H100i with Windows 8.1 Update 1 X64 and corsair link detects the unit and everything works fine on that front. However, the H100i USB drivers seem to cause some DirectX applications to crash when trying to detect Direct Input devices, one of the examples is AIDA64 Extreme software which crashes when opening Direct Input panel with H100i USB cable connected. Disconnecting it via software or hardware resolves the issue, I tried connecting the cooler to an external USB port with another USB cable with no luck, I always have to disable H100i USB device vis Device Manager in order to get AIDA64 to work correctly and not to crash, I tried reinstalling Windows with no luck as well. Do you think we need better USB drivers for the H100i to resolve this crashing issue ?

I tried connecting the USB input to my laptop which has Windows 7 X64 on it to be sure it's not a hardware issue and had exactly the same problem. The H100i is working fine I can get temp readings and control the LED and fans normally via CLink, however, the USB drivers are causing DirectX Direct Input crashes with some applications, DXDiag is not reporting any problems but AIDA64 Extreme is crashing on the Direct Input tab, it looks like the USB drivers are causing ntdll.dll to crash in both of my Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 machines ..

Yes, I am aware that the H100i uses generic HID drivers, but that could be the problem since those drivers aren't optimised specifically for the cooler, since it's not actually a real HID device after all, there could be some memory addressing issue with these drivers when used with the cooler.

I tried to update DirectX to the latest release, installed DirectX SDK, installed the latest chipset drivers with all Windows Update patches, tried keeping CLink open and also tried closing it, and even reinstalled Windows and none of that helped.

I can create a dump of of the crash and upload it if someone is interested to know more about what's going on ...

You're one of the lucky ones who has it working in Windows 8.1 and if AIDA is the only software that crashes it, and you know how to work around it,....I would say enjoy your computer and wait to see if Corsair releases dedicated drivers. You are on to something here!

  • 4 weeks later...

Actually i've experienced problems with DirectX since trying to make the Link Software work on my new rig.

The program window was just keeping crashing on startup even if it was still working in the taskbar.

ALL, and i mean ALL, my DirectX9 games (DayZ, Borderlands 2, ArmA 2...) started crashing at launch a soon as i was trying to play them.

BUT ArmA 3, wich is running on DX11, was running just fine.

I tried every update, reinstall what i could, I could never get those games work again.

So i just formated yesterday and restarted from scratch. But i let the Pump Connected in USB. Should-I Disconnect it ?

I will reinstall my games this evening and test them WITHOUT reinstalling any Corsair Link Related software.

If it still crashes... even without any Corsair Related Software installed : The HID Generic Drivers for the USB dongle seems very much to be in cause.

BUT (again) : When i first set up my computer, The CLink was working fine AND i was able to play my games DX9 or DX11. So i think it's in the latest BETA where the USB drivers we're messed-up.

Final test tonight
