chrlaugesen
Hi guys After having downloaded the latest firmware for my Voyager Air I plugged it into my Lenovo ThinkPad, and since it didn't register, I turned the Voyager Air on... which instantly shut my laptop down and it can't be turned back on. Have any of you experienced this? And/or do you have any advice? At the moment I'm trying to keep calm as I'm hoping I haven't just lost my laptop and my latest work on it - which, if lost, would set me back a week or more. chrlaugesen
For reference - if anyone experience the same: I have posted a similar note on Lenovo's Forum here: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-Edge-S-series/Lenovo-S540-short-circuit/td-p/1589178
Yellowbeard
Did your Voyager Air work properly before you tried the firmware update?
chrlaugesen
Yes, and it still works perfect. Praising it to the skies, except... it short circuited my laptop.
Yellowbeard
The fact that the Voyager Air is still working makes it appear as if the problem is with your laptop, and not the Voyager Air. A simple firmware update cannot cause a physical short circuit.
chrlaugesen
No, I don't think it has anything to do with the firmware update either, but it happened as I plugged the USB3.0 cable into my laptop and switched the Voyager Air on. I have previously updated the firmware without a problem, but may already have had the Voyager Air switched on when plugging it into my laptop. That's the only difference from what I can tell. Yellowbeard
What makes the most sense is a physical failure on the motherboard around the area of the USB connector. In this case, the Voyager Air is a passive device. There's no voltage coming from the Voyager Air over the USB cable. The USB slot on the MOBO is powered. chrlaugesen
Ok. Thank you very much for your fast response. Now I can close this path and continue with Lenovo. Cheers

adambenli
I haven't even had my new laptop for 1 week and now it's dead. I plugged the Voyager Air into the laptop's USB 3 port, flicked the Voyager Air on and the laptop immediately shut off. Can't seem to bring it back to life.
