SimonBuk
Hi all, first post so be gentle... I've acquired a Voyager Air today- have wanted one for a while but couldn't afford one, so took a chance and bought a used one from 'a famous auction site'- from a business seller, so I can return it if its not working properly. I've ben trying to update the firmware today, have followed the instructions to the letter, but it won't update. I'm wondering whether it's been formatted and is lacking the required files to support the update package - all that's in the root, other than the update .pkg, is three folders; '6.0', 'System Volume Information' and '$Recycle.bin'. Any ideas?
SimonBuk
Thought I'd found the problem- my firmware was 1.2.7, so guessed it maybe needed 1.2.8 before the latest firmware. I'm now on 1.2.8, but it won't do the upgrade to 2 :(
Yinmeout
You've probably seen my posts in this forum - but just to say that I could not get my device to update from 1.2.8 to 2.... either - and I thought that was a problem with the Linux network OS on the (tiny) motherboard not finding what it needed in the (logical) disk folder structure. However - your experience suggests that my assumptions are incorrect. You were able to go from 1.2.7 to . . . 8 but not jump up to 2. . . - perhaps there is some other issue with that that Corsair need to investigate. I assume you did not rename the (2....) .pkg file name at all? I definitely had a .minidnla folder before I formatted. I'll be using Acronis true image on the replacement drive before I touch anything. They clearly are much more tetchy than you might think!

Corsair Employees jonnyguru Posted June 3, 2014 Corsair Employees Share Posted June 3, 2014 Odd. I was able to go from 1.2.7 to 2 w/ no problems. Just to make sure..... You unzipped and then copied the file over to the root of the Voyager Air. You're not just copying the whole ZIP file over? After it's copied over, have ONLY the power plugged in. Don't have the CAT5 or USB plugged in. You won't need to access the drive during this process, so there's no sense being connected.
SimonBuk
Ok, I have to express my massive gratitude to Bill @ Corsair, he's been pretty damn awesome. Essentially, he walked me through various procedures, but once I formatted the drive, and transferred the update package to it, it worked perfectly. For your information, the required files to flash the drive (other than the actual firmware) are held in flash memory so formatting won't affect it. Thanks again, everyone :)

Thanks again, everyone :) Simon, would you care to share the steps you took? I am having the same problem, am on 1.28 and unable to upgrade to 2. Am suspecting that the issue might be that I formatted my drive for OSX, a while ago but don't want to go through a reformat, if it is unnecessary, as I have 500GB of stuff on the Voyager Air (version one)that I would have to move, beforehand. BillRathbone
By following these steps I was just able to reformat the drive to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and install the firmware image: 1. In Applications > Utilities > Disc Utility select the drive and choose Erase - choose "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" as the new file system. I also renamed it "VoyagerAir" 2. Copy the FW image file (VoyagerAir-dev.pkg) into the root of the newly-formatted drive. 3. Eject the drive in Finder. 4. Turn the drive off. 5. Unplug the USB cable. 6. Plug the dc power cable into the drive. 7. Turn the drive on. In about 15 seconds the Wi-Fi icon will start to blink. After two or three minutes it will stop blinking, At this point the drive is reformatted and the new firmware is installed. I loaded a couple of movies onto it from the Mac via USB, unplugged the USB cable, power-cycled the drive (though it will restart after USB is unplugged). Then I turned on the drive's Wi-Fi and connected to the WiFi network with my HTC One, and confirmed in Settings that the drive has FIremware 2.0.17. I was also able to play a movie that I loaded onto the drive. Note: If you cannot reformat, try fixing file corruption (which often happens when unplugging without ejecting) before running the update. Contact me (message me here) if you're still having issues. stonelli
Hi Bill, as you suggested in the other thread with the same issue, I will try to fix the volume but, at this point, need to wait for the files to copy out to another drive, so that I will have them if I have to reformat, thanks for the quick reply. Danzo
i know i'm gonna sound like a 2 year old but can you explain what you mean by root and how do i put a file into the root of the drive?
stonelli
When you plug in the Voyager Air and it pops up as a drive, if you double click on it, you will see the root, or master folder of it. That is where you need to put the firmware installer file.
stonelli
@BillRathbone I can confirm that the Disk Fix worked :-) I have now been able to install the new firmware to a Voyager Air formatted with HFS+ Thanks again for your help.
jmdarcey
Hi - I bought my Voyager Air 2 today and cannot find instructions on how to update the firmware either. I have read all the threads I can and I don't want to have any issues. If someone could please advise that would be great. I have downloaded the update and it has been unzipped. I just need to know where to put it...thank you all :)
jmdarcey
In fact, I read the attachment, and I put it in the drive, in the root folder (which happens to be the recycle folder), as well as the only other folder I could find. In none of the areas when I follow the directions does the 'wireless' icon blink and it program/update itself. <<sigh>> I tried. thnguyen
Hi, I am having a similar issue and cannot the firmware to update. I've done a checkdsk to fix file errors and copied the firmware to root and followed the instructions multiple times without avail. Please help. Yinmeout
Hard to help - without more information chap. You've clearly figured that the firmware will not install if there is any corruption on the disk. These steps do work. chkdsk /f the drive. Copy on the firmware (root of drvive) - eject the drive (after closing explorer windows viewing it.) Switch off the drive. Unplug the drive from USB. Power the drive from the charger - switch on the drive. Wait 15 seconds the wifi icon should start to blink. It will blink for about *5* minutes while the update completes. If the wifi icon does not blink after you power it on - the only reason for that is corruption on the volume. I would in that case - use Norton Ghost or acronis true image - to image the entire disk and then use diskpart to clean the drive. Commands are: List disk select disk 'n' (where n = the voyager drive) clean blows away the partition table = completely destroys the data and the drive - it's like a RAW drive then. Then use disk manager to create a new partition and format it - unless you know how to do it in diskpart - which is just as good. After that when you copy on the firmware - it will work. (I've abbreviated some of the steps slightly.)

Hello, I checked my volume serveral times, no faults, no corruption. I formatted it. The firmware update doesn't start. :(: Best wishes Reinhard
BillRathbone
Please provide: - Which drive (Voyager Air, Voyager Air 2) are you trying to update? - What is the file system on the drive (NTFS or Apple HFS+)? - Is there anything on the drive except the update file when you try to install the update? (This shouldn't be necessary, but is a fallback when having issues) - Is the drive disconnected from USB when you try and install the update? Corsair Employees jonnyguru Posted June 9, 2014 Corsair Employees Share Posted June 9, 2014 Root is not the recycle folder, sooooo....... Root is root. No folder. Just in the "root" of the drive.

jmdarcey
Thank you, Jonnyguru. I tried root. Did not work. Tried probably 10-20 times, just to be sure. So I tried all other folders (just for kicks - ya never know). I reformatted the disk. Tried again. We received the Voyager Air 2 Saturday at noon. I wasted 4 hours of my life trying to update the firmware because there is no way to get in touch with a human on a weekend regarding any of this. So, after a few phone calls today and being guided by tech support today, they couldn't make it happen either. Bottom line, I have to send it back and they will update the firmware on a new unit and send it back. A nice way to spend close to $200 and pay for expedited shipping since we are leaving for vacation and wanted to get it set before we left. :(
