VoyagerAir Passthru

What are the requirements for Passthru to function correctly?

There seems to be zero documentation on this feature. After some internet searches and reading through posts here I have found out the following:

1. Does NOT support WEP.

2. Does support WPA2 (no mention of AES or TKIP though)

3. VoyagerAir name versus WiFi SSID:

a. Can they be the same?

b. Should they be the same?

I ask all this as I have a single WiFi network with SSID = homenetwork, running WPA2 with AES. When I click on Passthru, then click on "homenetwork" and enter the correct password, I am just prompted to enter the password, over and over.

I tried setting the VoyagerAir to use the same channel as the WiFi.

I backed that out, then changed to WEP (before I found out WEP wasn't supported) on the WiFi, and tried configuring the Passthru.

I backed that out, and set a simple WPA2 AES password. That failed as well.

So what are the requirements for this feature to work? And if there are other dependencies please indicate them as well.

Running the latest firmware available as of two weeks ago.

Thanks. Will update from 1.2.8 to 2.0.17 and see how things go.

Still, what are the requirements for Passthru to work? Blindly updating firmware is not going to help me understand what needs to be set, and how, for this feature to work.

Maybe you can actually answer my questions next time.

The snarky replies are not helpful for troubleshooting and are unnecessary.

All of your questions are addressed in the user manual available on the downloads tab of any Voyager Air product page on http://www.corsair.com

Also, your information above is incorrect. Voyager Air will connect to WiFi networks with these security options:

WPA-PSK

WPA2-PSK

WEP

Yellowbeard. I wasn't trying to be snarky. I felt none of my questions had been answered by your response to "update to the latest firmware."

I read all the documents I could find about the passthru setting and literally found nothing. No mention of security and encryption schemes which are supported, nothing more than "to enable passthru click the button."

Figuring I must have missed some document somewhere I just looked again on the Corsair site and other than the FAQ there is no online documentation I have been able to find, so still no useful information. And all of this is WHY I posted in the first place. If there is documentation somewhere on the site then a link would be useful as I didn't see anything via normal navigation, and hunting around.

With regard to WPA2... my router is currently using WPA2-PSK (AES), but I could not connect to it with the Passthru feature, hence me changing the password to something simple in case I was indeed typoing the thing. Still no joy.

I'll keep my fingers crossed with the firmware update.

When I posted my first reply, I was waiting on info from the product manager which I needed to complete your answer. I still don't have it and I did not take the time to explain that to you. My mistake. I was rushing between meetings but, I did leave you an incomplete answer. I was hoping the firmware update would fix you up.

The guide I was waiting on is supposed to go live on Monday. Look for it on an updated Voyager Air product page.

No hard feelings on my part. I hope we can get you fixed up ASAP. ::pirate::

When connecting to another wireless network using Wireless Passthru the Voyager Air will display and connect to WiFi networks with these security options:

WPA-PSK

WPA2-PSK

WEP

There are three things to note:

1. If the wireless network has security, you will need to enable a wireless password on the Voyager Air drive too.

2. If the wireless network has security beyond one of those listed above (like some company networks with additional authentication), you won't be ablew to connect.

3. For many public wireless networks you will need to open a browser window on your tablet/phone and accept some legal text before you can do anything useful with that connection.
