StandingCow
http://techon.nikkeibp.co.jp/english/NEWS_EN/20140522/353388/ Thought this was interesting news that just came out.... wonder if this would be coming to the older Corsair SSDs?
antonyfrn
I do hope corsair will support this. anyone from corsair able to comment?
glugglug
It sounds like mostly hype to me. And also would be completely incompatible with all existing disk control protocols -- the OS disk acess logic and SATA controller would both basically need to be completely redone, for something whose benefit is basically the same as "not having a crap flash controller". From my understanding, this can be implemented on current SSDs. It's a middleware so it isn't reliant on the SSD itself or even the firmware to support it. However, I believe that this will be a selling point for new SSDs instead of being implemented on new SSDs. Business is business. :P
glugglug
Existing SSDs have no mechanism to tell the OS anything about the logical to physical flash mapping. Pretty much everything they describe would require a totally new access protocol, meaning new MB controller, new flash controller in the drive itself, new firmware etc. That they even hint otherwise is just an indication the article is nothing but hype.
