ghettotron
Hi, Got an i7 4930k, Asus X79 Deluxe mobo, 32GB quad channel Dominator Platinum @1866, GTX 780 SC, Crucial M500 960GB SSD, WD Velociraptor 1TB and 850W Antec True Power PSU. Just got new system up and running everything shows up fine 32GB with my entire computer on stock default settings in Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. Ran Sisoft Sandra and got BSOD couple times after restarting computer. I made sure all 4 modules are installed properly on the designated slots and ran Memtest86. After 4 passes I had about 16 errors on test #6 and 2 errors on test #9. Tested modules one by one and three of them appeared to work fine with zero errors. The errant one had a couple errors on test #3. Also did a test in pairs with one bad one and one good one and in one instance there were about 16 errors on test #6 when combined with the good one - which I found interesting when combined. I'm not sure if I should be really worried but and error is an error and I'm almost positive I nailed it down to the culprit module. Should I be worried with less than 20 errors with 32GB RAM? Is it worth doing an RMA on one module out of my quad channel RAM? Should I return all the RAM even though it came in a set of tested quad channel RAM? I'd hate to return 3 working ones and risk getting new ones that are possibly bad. Here are 2 screen grabs I was able to get: http://i59.tinypic.com/qywtjk.jpg http://i59.tinypic.com/htgq5d.jpg
Synthohol
what are your voltages in the bios? if you choose to RMA you can ask for an advanced RMA to get the new ram first then return the set. its not advised to just get 1 new stick as it was not matched at the factory. have you had any OS errors? bios up to date? any stability issues that are not just from a benchmark? either way its your choice to RMA or continue using the ram and see if anything negative happens while using the computer. the ram has a lifetime warranty so no rush through Corsair however if your store has an exchange policy you can do that as well. Synthohol- Thanks for the quick reply. Sorry, I'm a semi noob with these newer rigs as I haven't built a computer in over 7 years. BIOS is the latest from Asus site, v 0701. I set the mode to XMP for my RAM which set it to: 9-10-9-27 T2 and 1.5V. I noticed it also enabled some CPU voltage (VCCSA?) to 1.2V (which was disabled as default). Haven't done too much besides Sandra and Heaven. But just gotparanoid after I got two BSOD with Sandra. No stability issues running anything else so far. Haven't installed much programs yet but will be running Autodesk and Zbrush products soon. Nothing negative happens during normal use of the computer. That's good to know Corsair has a lifetime warranty because i thought I only had 30 days to RMA. I was thinking about doing that advanced RMA thing but I might hold off depending how desperate I am right now. I agree with what you are saying about replacing all the RAM if I RMA but I just hope I don't get another bad batch. On the other hand, I know I have 3 working ones right now but even if I have to keep returning just one module over and over again, I should be bound to finally get one that works properly (even though that one wasn't originally tested with the others). By the way, I just did another solo test on the only module I thought was bad and this time it had about 18 errors on Test #5 ( had a couple errors one test#3 and when combined with another good module). I haven't changed any voltages, settings or overclocked at all yet.
ghettotron
What type / version of memory test is that? It's the latest Memtest86 but running in a UEFI BIOS supported motherboard like my Asus X79 Deluxe.
Yellowbeard
Is it Memtest86+ ? And is it a program that runs in Windows?
ghettotron
Is it Memtest86+ ? And is it a program that runs in Windows? Yes...It's memtest86. You can see part of the logo on the left top of top picture. Typically runs on bootup BIOS and not possible in Windows yet.
Yellowbeard
Is it Memtest86+ ? And is it a program that runs in Windows? Memtest86 and Memtest86+ are not the same program. We recommend Memtest86+. LINK
ghettotron
Memtest86 and Memtest86+ are not the same program. We recommend Memtest86+. LINK Thanks. But just tried to install memtest86+ using the Auto-install for USB. It says it was successful formatting/installing but when I go to try to boot up with it, the USB drive is not one of the choices for boot. So I tried to boot the USB manually within my bios and I get some " no operating system" and then just boots into my normal Windows 7 OS. Sorry but Memtest86+ has worst USB install ever. At least the regular Memtest86 USB auto installer worked like a charm. Edit***The ISO option for disc worked. But when the test booted up, the timings and speed look wrong. It's showing as 1550/3100mhz with timings 19-15-15-31 @ 192-bit mode??? It's suppose to be 1866mhz: 9-10-9-27 2T. Not sure what the 192-bit mode is for. Edit***Let test run overnight for about 6 hours. Got about 24 errors during that timespan. (photo below) Also, not sure what's up with the USB auto-installer (for Wiindows OS). The contents installed on USB stick looked odd. I clearly downloaded the Windows OS version from the memtest86+ site: http://www.memtest.org/#downiso So regardless, whether I got errors with the original Memtest86 or Memtest86+ tool, there are errors on this stick. Looks like I'm going to finally submit an RMA ticket today. http://i58.tinypic.com/5v15i1.jpg
