froglegs
I just installed an AX1200i in my system and everything has been fantastic for the most part. The only problem I have is with the fan in the PSU. When the fan is running at a lower RPM (currently running at 40% in corsair link) the fan makes a scratching / whisping / brushing-like sound. It sounds a bit like part of the fan is very lightly brushing up against something or maybe the bearing is lightly catching on something. It sounds like it happens at some point during each rotation (it isn't a solid sound but more of a higher frequency intermittent sound). My system is liquid cooled and I have all my fans running around 1000 RPM so my system is really quiet. That said, the fan noise coming from the AX1200i is definitely the most distinct / audible sound coming from the computer. Any other AX1200i owners experience the fan noise I described? I'm wondering if this is an isolated issue with my particular unit or if this is present in all AX1200i fans (just a general characteristic of the fan used in these PSUs). ssdsonorder
I had a similar issue with my AX1200i and found it to be a small sticker placed on the fan sprue on which the wires ran from the hub to the edge. Part of a black sticker or tape piece had come loose from itself and was rat-at-at-ating against the fan as it spun. Careful manipulation was required to completely dislodge the sticker and remove it through the fan grill (was able to accomplish without opened the power supply). No noise or issues since....;)

I obviously can't see everything though so I'm not 100% sure. It definitely sounds like it could be brushing up against a sticker or something though. Can anybody else with an ax1200i confirm that their PSU is silent at 40% fan speed? If all the units do this, I might just take my chances and replace the fan. I'd obviously prefer not to void my warranty though so if other ax1200i users don't have this issue, maybe exchanging it for another unit would solve my problem. Corsair Employees jonnyguru Posted May 12, 2014 Corsair Employees Share Posted May 12, 2014 They don't all make this noise. And if you do replace the fan, you void the PSU's warranty.
