Anfield
Hi guys, I purchased an overclocked bundle last November that consisted of an i5 4670k at 4.2 and a Corsair h100i to cool it. I noticed it ran hot from day one but knew that Haswell was not the coolest to run so ignored it. Gradually over the weeks it become hotter, I spoke to the company that put it together and they advised me that it was fine and now after several months it has got to the point where I've had it running on stock for the last 6 weeks as it's just too hot. Today, I decided to load the OC profile from bios to see if there was any difference. I started playing battlefield 4 but couldn't even get past loading before it hit over 90 degrees and the whole pc blue screens. I had the h100i running on max rpm as well as all my case fans set to max. My case is corsair 550d and I have the sound dampening panels removed to increase airflow. I also regularly clean it out to prevent dust build up. The bundle itself actually failed during testing whilst still with the retailer which now leads me to belive there is an underlying issue either with the CPU or the h100i. I am more inclined to believe it is the cooler. If anyone could offer some advice I would be very grateful. Thanks in advance.
wytnyt
its hard to offer tech help since someone else built it and you likely cant answer help questions cooler may/may not be bad as installation quality cant be verified.
Anfield
I did do most of the work but had the cpu and cooler put in for me as I simply didn't have time to overclock it myself. The company I purchased it from are very good and well reviewed here in the UK. I have been told about how the backplate on the h100i doesn't always sit properly and causes temperatures to be very high?
wytnyt
yes the backplate has 2 small cutouts on 2 of the inner legs, these need to face up,also poor paste or improperly spread paste can cause higher temps...
rjbarker
90c is far too hot and unacceptable.......why not try re-mounting the Cooler? Take it off...clean the CPU and HS with some 99% Isopropyl Alcohol....and remount. Follow instructions that came with your H100i....easy n straightforward, especially for someone as yourself that said you put most of it together yourself ;)
Anfield
I did that this afternoon. No change whatsoever, still getting bluescreen and massive temps. I ran an AIDA benchmark and hit 100 degrees after 24 seconds and started to throttle so I ended it there. I contacted the retailer with all this info and the CPU, RAM, MOBO and H100i is all getting sent back. Hopefully should resolve everything. JDAM
100 degrees in 24 seconds? Is that in Celsius? The only way it could heat up that fast is if the water block wasn’t making contact with the CPU’s heat spreader. Is the water block warped? What’s the pump’s RPMs? Are the hoses kinked?
