MWesterduin
Hi Guys today I bought a replacement for my Coolermaster Evo 212 since I wanted some better cooling and something that is operating more silent. So I went for the H80i and I must say I have regrets. 1: My temps are 8 Celsius higher at idle than with the Evo. 2: The fans what a horrible sound the only profile I can use for noise reduction is the quiet profile since custom curve doesn't work. 3: Corsair link doesn't pick up a custom curve and keeps the fans at 500rpm while prime is stress testing. 4: Again the Fans how is it possible that they make so much noise. 5: My computer sounds like a jet first 10 seconds of booting because fans go full speed. Is there something what I can do about the noise/performance since i cant take it back to the store because I used it. I like the gear and memory of corsair but this is a downer for me. BTW: Firmware is 1.05, and sorry for the grammar English is not my native language. Greetings Maarten
wytnyt
you should make sure the 2 niches on the backplate are facing up and make sure tim is properly spread as both cause high temps.the fans are designed to hit full speed at boot then slow down after a few seconds... MWesterduin
Thanks for youre time and answer. What do you mean with the niches facing up, i can;t find the translation for niches sorry. I made a picture of how the cooler is mounted. Tried it now with fans on motherbord but that is not really satifying also. http://i60.tinypic.com/2cdvgwo.jpg Greetings Maarten
wytnyt
i just noticed your running an amd which im not too familiar with,,even if there is a backplate but if it does then its the x bracket that goes behind the m/b to secure the hydro... https://encrypted-tbn2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQDI_B7NLOyRA5dWsH6X0V2_FiYCkJebZwf1gLE9m5bxKf1ez3f
MWesterduin
Now i have my standard AMD backplate. On a hardware site they where telling also that it was easy with a AMD since you don't have to replace backplate. wytnyt do you own a H80i and how are youre temps. And i think it won't fit also BTW :D ( the backplate)
Latharion
The notches that wytnyt is referring to are located on the left side if the square part in the picture he linked to. The alignment of those notches is actually pretty important, although understated by Corsair for some reason.
MWesterduin
I made a screenshot from the quickinstallation guide from amd site. The backplate is for intel. http://i59.tinypic.com/2vkd9g2.png
MWesterduin
I updated the firmware from 1.05 to 1.07 and from what i see in corsair link it should be running smooth with RPM schedules. BUT the fans are making a kind of grinding/buzzing sound at 1080 rpm that it sounds like a bee's nest and the performance is worser then a 25buck cooler (Evo) in my system. Plus heavy noise under load. I really hope somebody has some more tips for me now it feels like 90 euro's down the drain.

MWesterduin
The fans on the radiator are the stock corsair and it are 4 pin fans. What do you mean with "i think id check tim" Tim?
wytnyt
im sorry, your thermal paste
Latharion
"TIM" is an acronym for "Thermal Interface Material". It's normally, but not always, a pasty or greasy substance used to transfer thermal energy from one surface to another efficiently.
