DrGerm
So, I've had nothing but problems trying to get an H100i connected to Link (http://forum.corsair.com/v3/showthread.php?t=128273) and I think it's broke now. Things seemed to work well until I tried using the Link software. i.e. my system was cool, the fans were quiet, etc. My guess is it fried when I finally got it recognized and the software attempted a firmware update. I'm sticking with this cooling solution, going to replace it with a new unit. I'm not interested in crazy overclocking or anything. I just want my PC to work and not mess with it. MY QUESTION IS: If I don't install Link, but if I have the H100i installed correctly (it appears to be working, and the LED is white, etc.) Is there any problems with avoiding the Link software? i.e. will the unit increase and decrease fan speeds relative to heat and those sorts of things? Is Link really just "for show" and to be able to customize things?
wytnyt
the link has firmware on the controller to cool at various load/temps the software is just to tailor it to specific needs...
DrGerm
the link has firmware on the controller to cool at various load/temps But you can only update the firmware through the link software, right? Is there any reason I should 'worry' about not updating whatever firmware is out of the box? For example, that latest update (1.07) specifically says "If your cooler is working properly DO NOT do this update it is released to help solve a specific issue and not everyone will have to do this update." the software is just to tailor it to specific needs... Cool, so I could avoid if no specific 'needs' (except to answer the above). THANKS!!

Is there any reason I should 'worry' about not updating whatever firmware is out of the box? I can't find it now (I'm at work) but I think I saw for that latest firmware update, it even said "not to install unless you're having a problem.... it's to get it to detect under Windows 8"... or something like that Cool, so I could avoid if no specific 'needs' (except to answer the above). THANKS!! you will know by running a load if its cooling of course so there would be no need to update, also updating does seem to help some and not others which is why they recommend updating only if needed hope this helps clear the air...;):
G50EED
I have never bothered with the link software and never connected my H100i via the USB cable. My H100i works beautifully with its fans controlled by my motherboard. Cooling performance is superb and the unit is dead quiet.
