LucBuj
Hi, 1st, my SSD shoes up in W7 as a SCSI... My BIOS is set to AHCI of course, installed a fresh W7, no succes... Even with integration of the Intel AHCI drivers in installation of W7. I also have bads blocks in the 484Mb area that prevent me doing a backup with Norton Ghost 15, so it is not funny to run an OS without being able to do backups... So as part of troubleshoot, a firmware upgrade sounds to be a good idea... I have M206, want to go to 208 Tried to do an upgrade in my rig: no success... Tried to do it in another RIG a second drive: no success, Tried to do a full erase in another RIG and tried upgrade: no success When I search for upgrade the Toolbox tells me that there was no informations about new firmware...! And before putting it the second rig, I was at least able to see that there was a 308 version... So from my point of view I think that there is two propblems: bad blocks and the fact that W7 see it as a SCSI... Now I want some help to get it work as I it supposed to... Toasted
For the bad sectors It's normal for any device with NAND flash to have bad sectors. It's the nature of flash. Your SSD has extra space reserved for managing bad sectors. Keep an eye on your SSD and check it again in about a month. If there is no significant change in this number of sectors, this means that the firmware and the controller are doing what they are supposed to and your SSD is fine. LucBuj
Yes it was tried... I know that it should be normal to have somes bads blocks but is it strange that I was able to do backups and now I can't... And why when I try to do a firmware update, Toolbox see my 206 version but it displays: Unknown at available version...? So from the fact that the SSD should be seen as ATA fixed disk, my W7 sees it as a SCSI drive? From some forums I've read that this could be a possibility for a firmware upgrade fail? But even in a second rig (Win XP), it is seen as an ATA fixed disk... but I have the same problem for a firmware upgrade... So now, is there is some tools to diagnose, repair, isolate some bad blocks or "restore" the firmware? Or there is only an RMA that could be done? Toasted
The SSD should be seen as a ATA disk but i've seen some X79 chipsets show it as SCSI. Not sure if it was the chipset or the drivers causing it. Is AHCI enabled on the second rig? If not, the firmware update will not work.
LucBuj
The second rig was an old asus maximus formula with q6600 cpu on a win xp... it was not ahci compliant but was seen as an ata and the firmware was not working either... And for softs I was asking is there something about it?
Toasted
Unfortunately, there is no software from Corsair to "repair" the drive. You can request an RMA to replace the drive.
LucBuj
Hi, I've request an RMA... As I saw this thread: http://forum.corsair.com/v3/showthread.php?t=122807&highlight=125GB I got exactly sames symptoms... Can you just confirm that it sounds the same issue... Toasted
It's seems like the same issue as you both are using the X79 chipset and experiencing similar to nearly the same problems.
LucBuj
Got another question... I've found a driver which was modified to suits the X79 and now my SSD is seen as a ATA Fixed drive... I've pasted the link below if it could help someone else... But I can't do upgrade as before I got the same error... So can you just confirm me that Corsair has'nt remove the m208 firmware on their servers for any reasons? That could explain why I receive an "unknown'' at available version... And is it normal that the over-provisionning fail? I receive the message that there is something that uses somes files... I have no softs running... Toasted
I'm not sure if the removed FW M208 but its highly unlikely. As you mentioned its shown in your second rig, it has to be something related to the software reading a incorrect signature or similar. The SSD is already over provisioned. You don't need more. LucBuj
Thanks ofr your response... I've got an RMA comming and is there is simple guide to optimize the use of an SSD? And do you think that the new drive I will receive will be at m208 version? And can we have a release notes aabout the fixes included in this new firmware version? for the "SCSI" on X79, I've found this: http://www.win-raid.com/t29f25-Recommended-AHCI-and-RAID-Drivers.html. It worked great!
Toasted
This guide may help. http://www.overclock.net/t/1156654/seans-windows-7-install-optimization-guide-for-ssds-hdds I usually don't bother with tweaks other than adjusting virtual memory, disabling hibernation and lowering the size for system protection. LucBuj
Just to let you informed that I've received the new SSD... It is now seen as a 120Go and the firmware is OK... So the problem was effectively the SSD...
