Akkalebur
I'm upgrading a computer from XP to W8, so I also wanted to upgrade the memory to 8GB total. I took out 2 sticks of CM3X1024-1333C9 and installed 4 sticks of CMX8GX3M4A1333C9. But then the computer wouldn't boot. The manual of my motherboard states that it can handle sticks of 2gig max. According to an other tread on this forum the x38 chipset can handle sticks constructed with chips of 256mb max. According to the DDR3 inquery list my CMX8GX3M4A1333C9 memory is constructed with such chips (ver2.13). I took out all sticks but one. But whatever I try, the bios is telling me: overclocking failed. I tried different sticks to rule out a defective one, I've tried loosening the timings, I tried running at lower mhz. All to no avail. What am I missing here? I have the feeling it's not gonna work, but if I read the specs correctly it should right? The specs of my system are: Processor: Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6850 Motherboard: Asus P5E3 (Intel X38)
Akkalebur
Sometimes something as simple as a bios update can be forgotten. :o: Works like a charm now with all 4 sticks :D:
