H100 - Running on bench no GPU, cold plate is HOT?

So before I ran my newly built PC with Corsair water cooling (H50 on GPU and H100 on CPU) I decided it was a good idea to run the pumps on the bench to make sure they wouldn't fail or leak, since I did the hose mod.

The H50 runs AWESOME. Moves a lot of water, and the cold plate is nice and chilly to the touch. But the H100 moves hardly any water, and when you touch the cold plate, it's actually HOT. Like very hot.

Should this be indicative of a problem?

Hi Techspectre,

I'm not sure what the "hose mod" is but I am interested in hearing about it. I would think the H100 is not behaving well and, if you haven't already done so, get it replaced.

What I mean by 'hose mod' is that I replaced the hoses with clear 1/4" ID tubing, and replaced the fluid with Feser One coolant. I can't just get it replaced without buying another one, since I modified it. I'm very happy with the H50 thus far but have had nothing but problems with Corsair's square-shaped coolers. I bought an H60 which I modified only to find that it was DOA, and couldn't return it because I had altered it. I bought the H100 as its replacement and tested it first, and confirmed that this one at least turned on. But now having modified it I'm finding that it runs hot. I understand that these are not designed to be modified but the problems I've experienced are not due to the modification, they are initial quality issues.

Update: sure enough, the H100 does nothing to cool the CPU. I turned on my rig for the first time since I started the build, went straight to the BIOS, and watched as the CPU temp went from 60°C all the way up to 105°C in a matter of minutes.

Buying a third cooler is really against my better judgment. I think I'm going to call this a bad idea and go with a custom loop.

the h100i isnt really designed to be modified, and changing to a fluid other than distilled water will certainly reduce the performance as the pump isnt strong enough so yes a custom loop would be your best bet,,hopefully you can do your loop cheaper than i did at $1200 dollars...
