sirca
Hi!! I have an asus z87 deluxe with a CMT8GX3M2A1866C9 kit (Dominator gt 2x4GB). My question is about the way to increase the memory. I think to expand to 16GB and I cant decide if buy an other kit CMT8GX3M2A1866C9 or change my kit with a venegeange pro 8x2GB. I think in future I will not expand to 32 (!!!) as in desktop environment (not workstation loads as simulation or 3d modellation) I think that amount is useless, but an advice/suggestion is always good from the memory guys. Also because from tech specs seems as "new" vengeange-pro@1866 are "the same" as "old" dominator-gt@1866. I dont think to overclock over memory specs rate (1866). Thank you in advance and sorry for my poor english :) Best Regards from Rome Andrea
JKeifer
Hi Andrea, Your English is fine! Most experts here would not recommend adding another identical 8GB kit to your existing kit but would say to replace your existing memory with a brand new 16GB kit that had already been tested to work properly together. The reason being that their is a chance the old and new memory may not "play" together well. I personally have been lucky in the past adding more memory to existing memory but success is not 100% assured. Good luck!
HOODedAssault
Better to go 2x8gb kit for the time being anyways. Many users having issues with 4 memory modules on z87. Some have no issue but why take the risk if you are willing to go 2x8gb modules.
sirca
Hi!! First, thank you for your suggestions. I identified the CMD16GX3M2A1866C9 kit (Dominator Platinum) as my favourite but... This 8GBx2 kit is listed in Asus QVL as compatible with z87 deluxe, but the corsair memory finder does not report this if I select my motherboard. Notice as other Dominator Platinum kit from 2400 to 1333 are reported as compatible. My question: Is Memory Finder updated?? Is it "complete"?? An other thing: my current memory kit is reported in corsair memory finder but it is not present in Asus QVL (!!!). So is the selected new kit compatible?? Thank you in advance!! sirca
Hi again!! I incidentally notice that only vengeance 2*8GB kits are suggested as compatible with several motherboards I have tried with the memory finder. And Dominator Platinum suggested kits are always 4*4GB. Is there a reason?? Again Best Regards from Rome :) Andrea
WesternDreaming
hi hi, ive found that under normal use, mixing 2 kits together is fine 99.5% of the time however when it comes to OCing, you would want to have the exact same kits as there are slight deviations regarding exact voltages and configurations, that will become increasingly more maddening to sync as your clocks get higher
sirca
Hi!! Finally I get a Dominator Platinum 2x8GB kit CMD16GX3M2A1866C10 (note: C10 not C9). I tried memtest 5.01 for over 24h: NO ERRORS!! I tried OCCT (Linkpack/OCCT) for over 1h: NO ERRORS!! I tried IBT & Linx for 1h each and again: NO ERRORS!! I run BF4, BF3, MW3 & BFBC2 several times for several hours each without glitches. So finally I can state that this kit is compatible with z87 deluxe (latest bios) Thank you guys!! Best Regards From Rome!! Andrea
