kypron
I've used only Corsair power supplies exclusively for the last few years, but having just bought an RM850, I'm having second thoughts as to whether I should get a TX or AX instead before I open it. I checked the serial number and it is in the new lot with the fan issue fixed, but all the reviews I've read point to really cheap capacitors used. Would an RM850 be reliable with a Core i74770k oc and R9 290 oc with possible crossfire down the road?
JKeifer
Hi Kypron, The RM850 will provide enough power for your system today and down the road if you upgrade to crossfire. Any 850w psu would be adequate. Your question about reliability implies that you intend to keep the psu for a long time, correct? As this is probably an entry level modular power supply, there are others in the Corsair line, as you mentioned, that use better, more expensive parts including the capacitors. If saving a few bucks is important to you then this is a great psu for the money. If you don't mind spending more, you can get a better psu. It's all up to you and what you are looking for. makn
Yes an RM850 will be enough. Im running two Sapphire r9 290 tri-x in crossfire with 4670k oc to 4.2ghz. My system power consumption is around 700-710w when running 3dmark firestrike, and around 670-690 when playing games such as Battlefield 4. I have the Corsair CX750M PSU but will recieve the AX 860 tuesday. Could be great with a little higher margins :)
