RocketPuppy
No gaming means you can easily go for a smaller case, and I have a hard time recommending AMD no matter what. The power supply you chose would be far greater than anything you need. 2133mhz Memory isn't needed, 1866mhz is the "sweet spot" for Intel Haswell as far as price for performance. Switching to an i7 4670k for better price/performance http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i5-4670K-vs-AMD-A10-6800K I cut down the PSU size, case size, added a GPU, and went with an mATX motherboard. Went with a smaller CPU Cooler as well, for better price/performance. Here is an i7 4670k build with a low power draw GPU for under $1000. Power consumption is around 50% of PSUs output, around what you want to aim for. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3rCtx CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($222.00 @ Amazon) CPU Cooler: Corsair H55 57.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($44.99 @ Newegg) Motherboard: ASRock Z87M Extreme4 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($119.99 @ Newegg) Memory: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory ($88.99 @ Newegg) Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 120GB 2.5" Solid State Disk ($89.99 @ Amazon) Storage: Western Digital RE3 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($57.26 @ Amazon) Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB Video Card ($150.38 @ Newegg) Case: Corsair 350D MicroATX Mid Tower Case ($69.99 @ Newegg) Power Supply: Corsair RM 550W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($99.98 @ OutletPC) Total: $943.57 (Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.) Note: If you live near a Microcenter you can get the CPU and MB much cheaper than the price listed here.
cpachris
^^ This. I second every recommendation from RocketPuppy. Not sure you could spend $1k more wisely on a non-gaming machine.
Jobs316
Always go with an Intel chip. AMD is trash. Just being honest. Any company that sells an Octocore chip for $169 is a joke.
LangZone
I always go Intel as well but I must admit AMD makes some really cool APU's so if you can get an AMD APU and Mobo cheaper it would be fine.

HOODedAssault
AMD is not bad for a non gaming rig. That being said. Intel intel intel. AMD is still using the same basic architecture they've had for somewhere around 10 years or more now. Just keep throwing more cores and more power usage at them. I'd say you should get some kind of gpu as well. Even google chrome uses gpu acceleration so even for everyday use and not gaming a decent gpu enhances speed. I don't think a 750ti is necessary tho. Could go with like a gt640 or something n be fine.
