pasqual
Hi I bought VoyagerAir few months ago so far used as external USB drive. Now I would like to use is as NAS drive in my home network to make automatic backup for my devices. I connected VA to one interface on ASA 5505 FW the idea is to have protected storage. So VA is getting IP from dhcp-server (run on ASA) , I see packets going out from ASA to VA but I dont see responds when issue ping from ASA interface that is directly connected to VA Im getting replay from VA. Im suspecting that on VA DefaultGateway is not set , maybe is not supported ? why ? Is there any way that I can force VA to set GW IP ? My 2nd question is about some kind of protection when connecting from network , is possible to setup simply login/pass protection per volume/drive ? for example on my VA I have 4 volumes each for diff user . I would like to make basic protection that each user can only access volume only if know correct password UP: I will try with proxy-arp
Toasted
Is the drive connected via a USB connection or Ethernet? Once the drive is connected to the network, it should be automatically assigned an IP from the router which then computers can access it by. I don't think you can set a basic user login for each volume.
pasqual
Is the drive connected via a USB connection or Ethernet? I don't think you can set a basic user login for each volume. Is connected via Ethernet only (usb , wifi OFF) is getting IP , as I said is responding to ping from ASA interface that is directly connected to VA , problem is is not responding to any communication initiated from different vlan (not VA IP range) this is why im suspecting that DefaultGateway is not set on VA , im sure that DHCP server is sending DefaultGateway(DHCP option3) BTW: Proxy-ARP didnt fix issue , I would like to understand what networking setting/protocols are supported on VA , is just L2 device ? with simple IP assignment ? pasqual
RFC2132 DHCP Options http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc2132.txt What DHCP options are supported by VA ? ??? (All from RFC2132??) Can I force VA to use some of the options ? base on rfc2132 ?? I did capture and I know that VA is sending DHCP request for : options: 1- subnet , 3-router (gateway), 6-NDS server , 12-hostname , 15-domain-name , 28-broadcast-address , 42-NTP How VA is handling datagrams with non-local source routes ?? Can I use dhcp option 20 to force that ? or option 19= IP Forwarding Enable/Disable Option ? one more interesting option is 33=Static Route Option ? So question is what DHCP options are supported by VA and what are default values used on VA (same as in rfc2132)??
Toasted
It's best to contact Corsair via phone and ask about it. You can call technical support using Skype by calling their toll-free number on their website.
pasqual
I tested all DHCP options ..is not working anyway :) Only solution is StaticNAT ..that way all incoming traffic VA see with sourceIP from his own IP-range/vlan. StaticNAT is working .. but is not best solution. I was expecting from VA to be L3 device with some basic functionality that is allowing to connect device to network Is just stupid LAN L2 devices that is not able communicate with hosts that are one Hop away. 2nd things what I was expecting is that some one from support team is checking that forum,
