radar19
I've got a AX860 running a single 560Ti from Asus doing folding@home. I reached down the back of my Antec 1200 case to find that the mess on the back of the PSU is rather warm. Now, this PSU was powering a GTX580 before and was ice cold so I'm a little confused as to why a less powerful card is making the PSU run warm. I have the PSU running on the fan mode and the fan is spinning, the only thing I can think of is that the 560Ti is not a blower cooler and is venting into the case. JKeifer
I am not sure why the PSU is running warmer with the new card you are using but I wouldn't be concerned about being able to feel warmth on the unit unless it is so hot you can't keep your hand on it. PSUs can and will sustain quite high temperatures without cooking themselves.
Corsair Employee jonnyguru Posted April 5, 2014 Corsair Employee Share Posted April 5, 2014 Yep. Don't worry about it. The AX860 is supposed to be able to output full load, even at ambient temperatures as high as 50°C. I'm sure your assumption is correct. The 560Ti's cooler is just dumping heat back into the case instead of out the back.
JKeifer
Possibly but to my knowledge none of Asus', or any other manufacturers, Nvidia-based graphics cards are designed to pull air into the case. That can be verified by feeling for airflow at the back of the card either with your hand or a thin strip of paper or a thread and watching which direction the "wind" is blowing. Corsair Employee jonnyguru Posted April 6, 2014 Corsair Employee Share Posted April 6, 2014 I wasn't saying they were pulling air into the case. Dual slot cards always push air out of the back, but single slot cards will just push air down onto the heatsinks and that heat just recirculates back into the case.
