Pixelmancer
I've been talking about building a new gaming PC for a couple of months now and just to confuse everyone I decided to make it look exactly the opposite of the beast people are expecting. Yep, I'm building a mini-ITX gaming rig. Weird, huh? I just felt like being random I guess. Anyway, somehow my parts list ended up being like 90% Corsair and I didn't even notice until I was done. I started with the case. I read one of the most glowing reviews I've ever seen while I was on one of my favorite hardware sites so I decided to get the Obsidian 250D. I've always liked the minimalist design of Corsair cases anyway. Next I needed a PSU. I want some of those cool, color coordinated, individually sleeved cables I always see on build logs. I was just about to order the tools and supplies I'd need when I found out Corsair makes premade ones. Looks like my PSU will be a AX760i then. I'm too lazy to mod them myself if I can just buy them instead. Next came the motherboard and GPU, but those are both MSI. The Z87I and GTX 780ti Gaming G3, respectively. Next I needed RAM and it needs to be red or red and black since that's what everything else is. The first 2 red RAM sets I came across were both Corsair so I decided to get 16gb of Vengeance Pro. I should also get some fans since cases always come with crap ones. There's not much competition for red fans that aren't the cheapo $5 LED variety that are no better than stock. The only other quality alternative I could find didn't have a matching 140mm so the fans ended up being Corsair too. I saw an article that tested and compared various SSD's and the Corsair Neutron GTX did pretty well so I might as well put that on the list too. The case says it supports a 240mm radiator, but I doubt I can fit a custom setup in a ~1 square foot case so I decided to get a closed loop cooler. Oh look, Corsair makes one with the same colored Lego rings my fans will have. Guess I'll get that too so I can match. I put some random ASUS blu-ray/dvd/cd drive that I can't remember the model of on the list, followed by a 10k RPM Western Digital Velociraptor hard drive and then I was done. I decided to check my list again to make sure I didn't miss anything and that's when it hit me that the only things that aren't from Corsair are the stuff Corsair doesn't even make. This has to be the result of some kind of subliminal brainwashing conspiracy, but I fell for it. Well played Corsair, well played. I'll get the case later this month and I'm going to try to get Corsair's overpriced cables this month too if they're back in stock. Next month I'll get the PSU and whatever else I can afford. I'm not rich enough to have almost $3000 just laying around so it'll take me a few months to finish this. I'll try to remember to post some pics as I go though. Edit: Doh! I forgot the CPU. It's going to be a 3.5ghz i7-4770k.
