What is wrong with the RAM module?

Recently, I've purchased 2x4 GB corsair so-dimm to upgrade my 2-year old HP Envy 17 3D 1201tx laptop. The laptop originally came installed with 4 GB of RAM (i.e. 2x2 GB Samsung M471B5673FHO-CH9).

Searching Google, I found the specifications of Samsung M471B5673FHO-CH9 as listed below:

PC3-10600

DDR3-1333MHz

non-ECC

Unbuffered

CL9

204-Pin SoDimm

Cycle Time: 1.5ns

Memory Clock: 166Mhz

Voltage: 1.5

Based on the above specifications, I had purchased 2x4 GB Corsair CMSO4GX3M1A1333C9 after talking to the specialist at the vendor's site.

When I replaced the old Samsung dimms in the laptop with the new Corsair 2x4 dimms, the laptop entered in to the "reboot loop." Further testing, revealed, one of the corsair dimm was causing the reboot looping. While the other corsair dimm making the laptop sloooooowest.

I called up the vendor and asked for replacement, but I'm worried about the compatibility.

May, I request the experts here, to please suggest me the best of the compatible RAM for my laptop, so I get the maximum performance from my laptop.

First off mixing meory is never recomended. Even though they may be the same in specs, they are highly different modules comprised of different chips and PCBs. This will often lead to compatibility issues when paired with other modules.

However it sounds as if you have narrowed it down to one bad module, which unfortunately happens from time to time. If your vendor doesn't want to replace them for you simply use the link on the left to request an RMA and Corsair would be happy to replace them for you..
