AX760i fan start problem

Hi.

I would greatly appreciate if someone can tell me how to get the fan to turn on with the computer.

I have to manually start the Corsair Link v2.5.5145 to start the fan. It will NOT start by itself - EVER. Sometimes I have to restart the software X times for the fan to start and/or change the speed setting of the fan for it to start.

I've tried scheduling the software to start in Windows Task Scheduler and ticking the "run at Windows startup" option in the software. I can see the tasks at C:\Windows\System32\Tasks as well as in the Windows Task Scheduler. Sometimes the software start, sometimes it doesn't.

But the fan will NOT start!

I know the fan doesn't have to run but I want it to. I want it to run when the computer is turned on.

I can't use the option hibernate, sleep or reboot, if I do the fan will NOT start again (and the self-test function will not work either) until I turn off the computer and turn it on.

Thanks in advance.

I'm exactly in the same situation:

1.- I have random power-off by itself of my Corsair AX760i PSU. After reading lots of threads in this and other forums, I've seen this is a typical situation with the AX760i and AX860i, caused by overheating in the PSU and the fan not starting to refresh the components (the fan doesn't start by default until you've reached 200W of power consumption, which is unreachable by my system).

2.- One workaround for this situation is to turn the fan always on at least at 40% of its total RPM, which can only be done by software using Corsair Link.

3.- Corsair Link version 2.3.4816 used to apply your personal profile to the PSU by itself when Windows starts, but not in version 2.5.5145 (you have to manually open the program).

4.- Another problem is when you return from hibernation, there is no way to change/apply your profile to the PSU, so you are stuck to the default profile again. Also, temperature and fan RPM from the PSU are not correctly read.

My questions are:

a) Is there any way to apply a personal profile to the PSU (i.e., to set the fan always on) and keep the changes forever? I mean, is it possible to store the profile changes in the PSU so when the system starts in another moment they are applied by default without the need of using Corsair Link anymore?

b) Is there a possibility that the PSU turns on by itself the fan when a certain temperature has been reached, not only by high power consumption?

c) Is it scheduled to solve the problem with Corsair Link not properly communicating to the PSU after hibernation?

d) Is there any other way to control de PSU fan without using Corsair Link?

The fan is actually thermostatically controlled. We only use load % for demonstration purposes, but the advertised fan curve only applies if the room temperature is 25*°C. If room temperatures are higher, the fan should certainly turn on sooner.

Ok. I just did a quick test. With a 400W load, my PSU temperature hit 35 to 40°C. After about five minutes, the fan kicked up to about 400 RPM. As soon as I turned the load off (shut down Prime95 and Furmark), the PSU fan stopped, but the PSU hovered around 37.5°C for a few minutes before gradually dropping down to room temperature.

Thanks for the experiment jonnyguru, but this reaffirms me that the PSU is only controlled by power load, not by temperature.

In my system it’s impossible to get more than 200W of power consumption due to my configuration, and when I artificially raised temperature the fan didn’t kick in either, so it’s impossible for me to get the PSU fan started by itself, I can only start it by hand using Corsair Link.

So, my questions are still almost the same:

a) Is there any way to apply a personal profile to the PSU (i.e., to set the fan always on) and keep the changes forever? I mean, is it possible to store the profile changes in the PSU so when the system starts in another moment they are applied by default without the need of using Corsair Link anymore?

b) Is it scheduled to solve the problem with Corsair Link not properly communicating to the PSU after hibernation? No temperature or RPM are read from the PSU into Corsair Link after PC hibernate.

c) Is there any other way to control de PSU fan without using Corsair Link?

The only way to control the fan is with Link. The inability for Link to operate correctly after coming out of hibernation is news to me. I haven't had that problem. But I'll bring it up in the next bug tracker meeting and make sure it's something that's addressed in the future version of Link.
