Corsair 680X GPU won't fit in case.

I ran into some trouble while building a PC with the Corsair Crystal 680X back in December, the problem being that the GPU won't fit in a brand new Corsair Crystal 680X case.

 

Specs were the following:

 

Case: Corsair Crystal 680X

Motherboard: Crosshair VIII Hero

GPUs I tried installing:

- Asus GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11 GB STRIX GAMING OC Video Card

- EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Superclocked

- MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G

Even though I tried with 3 different GPU's, installed the motherboard several times, I wasn't able to screw the GPU into the slot.

 

I also removed the "Supreme FX" cover on the motherboard, but It wasn't going to help since it wasn't even touching the GPU.

 

I kind of gave up and built my PC using a very old case (a white 760T).

 

I never understood what the issue was, my best guess is that the motherboard standoffs were too short and therefore, the motherboard wasn't tall enough so that the GPU could fit in.

 

Sadly, I don't have all the pieces that were included in the case so I can't return it anymore. I understand that I won't be able to RMA the case.

 

So, the purpose of this post is just to know let people know about my issue, and maybe, just maybe if there's a workaround I can still try.

I've had somewhat smiliar issue with the 680x, to me it seemed like the back metal panel was warped or at an angle but I got it to work with a litte pushing.

Hard to tell if that's the issue with your case judging from the pictures tho but maybe you wanna check for that if you haven't already.

Yea push the back of the case. it's very thin steel it will line up. The GPU brackets also have a bit of give depending on the brand. some ASUS ones are very thin and will easily bend to line up.

 

I have had this issue on pretty much all cases i have had recently, an old HAF-X, a 680X, and the current O11D-XL. Don't be afraid to push the case :)

As others have stated we all had to push the back of the case to make it line up properly. It is thin and doesn't hold very straight so it flexes a good bit. I'm currently trying to get some fans on the Hard drive side. Right now it is an Easy Bake Oven on that side with zero airflows on the PSU side. It surely isn't a high airflow case at all.

That side is cooked by the CPU backplate ^^' On mine i had taken the drive bays and installed two 80mm fans. If you have drives installed it's gonna be funny. traditionnal 80x25mm do not fit, maybe slim ones would.

I have some 90mm fans. Just not sure how loud they will be or a way to mount them. But I will figure out something. Might be zip tie times.

i did mount 90mm before i got the 80s.

 

I slanted them slightly and fixed them in place with just two screws on opposing sides, like top left and bottom right.

Just a bit of air flow is enough, they don't have to be running fast to cool down the chamber :!:
