AC860i Self Test ATX Cable Attached

Im having issues with powering up my Gigabyte Z87X-OC Motherboard.

 

The strange thing is when trying the self test button on the PSU, I get the green light and all is well

 

If I connect the ATX Cable to the PSU and try it again, self test fails. I get one click and that's it.

If I remove half of the ATC Cable from the PSU as its split in 2, the self test works fine.

 

Is this normal behaviour or does the self test just not work when the cable is connected to the PSU, but NOT to the motherboard?

 

This is a brand new system. I think the AX860i is should work with the Z87X-OC?

I think someone else asked same question the other day and if I remember correctly it will always fail with a cable plugged in always test without anything plugged in

self test button only without cables connected

Correct. If there are ANY cables attached to it at all, it will fail.
