Win7
--> Recording devices in windows
--> Properties on the mic
--> Enhancements tab
--> Checked Low Frequency Protection
--> Checked Loudness Equalization
--> Click Apply

It was MUCH louder for me after that.
Thank you igl007 for doing something Corsair would not. Fix the mic problem.

I must apologise please accept my humble apology my mic now works perfect after also trying these settings I must have done it wrong first time I tried it. I can now confirm the mic works perfectly clear in all source games and everything else voice recordings, ventrilo etc.
Very well done for trying these settings.

Windows 7:
Control Panel\Hardware and Sound
Sound -> Recording Tab -> Select Mic and then hit the properties button.

If you don't see the enhancements tab in there, check out the headset's properties under the Playback tab.

Thank you very much!!!
I now come in loud and clear in games. I still need to have the mic level at 100%. But everyone can here me quite well now. No need to RMA a second time! I'm sure this will work until an updated driver is available.

BigOne,
Can you test them in another system and see if it follows the HS1.

I've got a SB Audigy installed. This tab does not appear.

I guess it'll be there when i've got the corsair installed, without the soundblaster?

The headset would be perfect if only the software was FUNCTIONAL i.e. doesnt randomly switch left with right or front with rear while watching a movie or a game.
And if you could change volume of the headset and windows INDIVIDUALLY.

/rant

Well, i just got my spankin' new RMA'd corsair HS1 returned to me.

I installed em, and immediately tried a windows sound recorder recording, mic volume maxed. I was quiet again. D'oh!

Soooo... I tried the Low Frequency Protection, and Loudness Equalization as mentioned above. I sound great now.

I've even turned DOWN the mic volume to 80%, and (using windows sound recorder) am still nice n loud n clear. I'll have to find the sweet spot.

Wow, just wow. I can't believe Corsair let this one slip through the QC / R&D of the software.
Either I've got SUCH a deep voice (i kinda do, when talking on a headset) that this headset thinks it's gonna blow up and therefore quiets me, or corsair was silly and should have these settings enabled by default.

Are all the other folks that complain of mic issues male? I wonder if I turn OFF the LFP and Loudness EQ, if my wife would sound OK on here? Hrm...

Either way, my mic now sounds normal. Woohoo!

My free headset only cost me $22, corsair wasted their RMA department's time by auto-RMA'ing instead of doing root cause analysis on this issue... and hopefully we can ALL learn from this, eh?

Someone needs to give igl007 a hero cookie. Seriously. Corsair should thank him in a big way.

I still cant beleive this was missed by R&D at corsair :( come on guys, IMHO i expect better from the brand of Corsair, be it audio, RAM, cooling, whatever.

I really do expect top notch goods, attention to detail, etc. from Corsair. Doesnt everyone that's buying 'em?
That's why I bought an 800D, and own an F120 (which has a 30 second boot delay, btw with firmware 2.0), and own HS1s.

/rant ;)

Also, someone really, really should sticky the solution to this problem in this forum.

quick update on mic volume levels after enabling the LFP and Vol EQ:

I did some test recordings trying to speak in a normal gaming voice, and ended up lowering the mic volume all the way down to 40%. Wow.... 30% was a little quiet, but not too bad. 40% seems to be the money spot. Maybe 45.

Thumbs down

Would anyone have some instructions for making these adjustments in Window XP? I search from control panel to the Corsair software and still have these issues. I emailed Corsair, but they never responded, very disappointing.

Thanks

Here's something that I find weird about the software , It's advertised as a gaming headset , but there's know presets for games, Just music , Yes there's a equalizer and you can set it up the way you want, But since it is advertised as a gaming set you would think they would have added some presets for gaming and then you just adjust from there. Something they actually tried experimented with and thought would be the best for that game , You know put some thought into it...

Maybe thats something they can add in future updates,

But since mine has been sent in for exchange for analog it won't make any difference to me,, But it's just a thought.

Those presets are for up-converting stereo to 5.1 or 7.1. The idea is that your games should play in 5.1 or 7.1 already. As well, "gaming headset" usually refers to headphones with an attached mic.
