H100 + LGA 2011 thermal pad

Quick question before I finish installing the pump onto my CPU:

The stock thermal grease pad that comes preinstalled on the pump looks smaller than the surface area of the chip ( I7-3930K) will it expand when I install it onto the CPU or do I have to remove all of it and start from scratch?

I don't want to have to install this thing twice and don't want to risk burning my shiny new CPU....

It's good as is. I know it looks small but it isn't. There's another thread here somewhere from another X79 user who reports the same thing. I relied on that when doing my build as I really didn't want to mount the cooler then dismount it to check the TIM spread. Thankfully that other user did it for me! (My thermals are fine.)
