Tom123 Posted June 4, 2020 Share Posted June 4, 2020 Hi, is it possible to use 3200 RAM instead 2933 RAM (cheaper and better to buy)? That means i want to use the RAM at 2933 and not 3200! That would be an "underclocking". c-attack Posted June 5, 2020 Share Posted June 5, 2020 (edited) All RAM should boot to 2933 MHz automatically on Z490 (or at least be an option depending on MB). In order to use higher speeds, you must enable the XMP profile or manually change timings and voltage yourself. You won't be underclocking. You will be running the specified default frequency and voltage. The 3200 MHz is the "overclocking". In terms of performance, it likely makes little difference between two close adjacent frequency rungs. However, it also likely makes little difference in terms of temperature or stability on 99% of motherboards so the negative consequence to running 3200 are probably close to none. Normaly i would buy DDR4 2933 RAM (Intel specification). If all is ok i can operate the RAM with XMP at 3200 (overlocking). But if it is not ok, it is a must to operate at 2933. AND IN THIS CASE: Do the 3200 RAM operate without any limits in the same manner as the 2933 RAM (no lower performance or poor stability)? :confused: Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
